Putting an EJ gearbox and motor into an L series....
Anyone happen to know exactly how much the front section of the tailshaft needs to be shorten by?

I do own one already done but it's lent out right now so I can't measure it.

About that much (as i look down to my fingers remembering the last one i did) I think its about 40mm but ill have to have a measure up in the am to be sure.

im guessing a manual box?
With my TT and auto box i had to use a L auto front tail shaft piece and no other mods. I was lucky:)

This is to fit a 5spd AWD gearbox and engine to an L series

I just measured mine - the actual tube part of the front section is exactly 400mm.

PeeJay I measured the difference in length between an L series 5spd and the RS turbo 5spd gearboxes I have here....
If I was to make my tailshaft 400mm long I would need to take 70mm out.
But according to my measurements on the gearboxes I need to take approx 80mm out.

I told the tailshaft guys to take out 75mm (checked with OS who could vaigly remember it was around this much). There's always enough movement back and forth at the yoke end to soak up 5mm either way anyways.
I'll find out how she fits next week some time!

I put together the 2 boxes (L and Lib) and found the L series being 65mm shorter then the liberty box. I measured it with casings together and stood on end with a straight edge and measured down the to the L series output at the lip of the seal.

just to clear this one up....I fitted the tailshaft last night. Looks like it's an absolutely perfect fit. 75mm chopped out.

it's not the length of your tailshaft that matters, but how quickly you can spin it.
