Do the brakes from the L series fit brumby and is it worth the trouble.

Front - yes, it can be done but debatable whether it is worth doing.

Rear RX/Turbo/Vortex discs - yes, bolt-on fit and very common upgrade. Must be a 4wd unit, the 2wd and Vortex aren't the same.

hmmmm IMO

fronts dont bother...if urs are Solids then just get some later Brumby Vented Calipers and discs on. i dont think theres much difference at all with dimensions of Lseries vented and MY venteds neways.

Rears...the rear discs are a good upgrade.

i run Brumby vented on the fronts and Rear Discs of an RX and she stops Very well expecially compared to stock.
but i also got a Liberty Booster and Master Cylinder in it. which jsut adds more to it :D.

MY ventilated and L series are the same rotor. but if you go ventilated you will need the wider caliper, pads are the same

not correct SWK according to my sources. but they culd be wrong i guess.

Leone DL, GL, All models 1985 - 94 F 641 3 V ented 242 44 18 16 70 4

Brumby AU 1985 - 93 F 640 3 V ented 230 52 18 15.5 70 4

if u can follow that the numbers at the end are wt ate important and there is slight differences between the MY ventilateds. and the Lseries

edit - they also have different part numbers to.
Brumby/MY F ventilateds being a DBA-640
Lseries front Ventilated's being a DBA-641

Front calipers are different and there for need the knuckles as well. These are different and will give you much worse positive camber and a different roll radius oin your steering. Which is ok if you know how to set the front suspension up right. But they are FAR from being bolt on.

Yes, L series rotors are a fair bit bigger.

Correct, the L are 242mm diameter, the MY are 230mm diameter. Slightly different offset from mountint face to disc face too.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I have a 89 brumby that I,m turning into all that it can be. I recently bought a friends L series wagon predominantly for the 5 speed and its wheels but was wondering what other bits were worth taxing before I wreck it ( anyone need L bits ).

I believe seats will swap across from L to MY no problem. Probably be the wrong colour though - most late MY's had dark grey interiors, which I don't think is common on the L's.

Driveshaft if you're swapping in the 5-speed. It's 2-piece unlike the MY so you need to support it in the middle (or get a custom-made single piece made, which is what I did).

Intake is slightly better flowing (I assume it's a carby model). If it's MPFI obviously it won't fit, AND the output shafts on the gearbox will be different that MY (I learnt that one the hard way).

Thanks Dfoyl, yeah I will swap the seats over and keep all the 5 speed swap bits as well. I assume the L driveshafts will have to be swapped as well but can you tell me if they need modding to fit, Also do you think there's any benefit in fitting L booster and /or master cylinder. Thanks

Yes, the L-series driveshaft is physically longer because the 5sp is shorter (and lighter, and stronger) then the 4sp. There is no other modding apart from the centre mount requirement afaik.

L-seres booster - with rear discs the car will pull up fine with standard parts. I've towed with it and it stops great.

Driveshafts are the ones going to the Wheels and Hubs..ur referring to the Tailshaft/Propellor Shaft/ Prop Shaft.

the Lseries Driveshafts have a longer Shaft on them. and AFAIK ur MY ones shuld be alright to just slot back onto the stub axles on the 5spd.
some 5spds do have different spline counts on the Stub axles but thats for turbos and weird stuff. 90% or more of the time u shuld be right to use the MY ones.

btw the rear drums are exactly the same if u need some replacement stuff.

thanks for the replies guys It appears I'll be keeping quite a few bits from the L as spares. By the way does anyone know the diff ratio of a May 87 build L series.

3.7 or 3.9

it may have the sticker on the Diff cover still.

i hear 3.9s arent as common

touring wagons(with the high roof) are 3.9 and standard sports wagons are 3.7

the L seats are a bit cramped if fitted to a Brumby. If you are 6'2" or more you may find you wish you were shorter
