Speedo Fix

I'm about to put a 2" lift and 14" speedies on my stock L series. Where do I find the part that makes my speedo read right???????????

a handheld GPS..and remember how far out it is..
thats the easiest way neway.
the lift wont cuase ur speedo to go outta wack onyl the trye size.. and if ur only going up a cupple of inches it shuldnt affect it to much.
one of my cars is now reads 3K's above wt im actually doing from going from 175/70 R13's up to 195/65 R14s...altho i enver tested how "accurate" it was before
handling also went up a ton to with the new street tyres ive got
wuldnt have a clue how far out my Wagon is but dont think its to bad. ive changed tyres on that heaps to

a rough guide would be the % increase in circumference of larger tyres would equal the % increase in actual speed

I've seen someone use some Adobe program to make up stickers with the speeds out by the right percent to stick over the speedo. Turned out really good looking. Just can't remember where/what/how it was done.

I was only thinking this the other day.
Scan a L series dash layout, modify it and take it to a sticker printing place and get it made to stick straight over the old speedo. Could even do it with styled writing and colours

Wouldn't it be easier just to remove the speedo cable drive assembly from the gearbox and fit the appropriate gear to it ? I'd have to look but I think the drive gear has a "D" shaped hole where in fits on the end of the shaft and is retained by a circlip .

If you want a professional way to get the speedo, trip meter and odo truly reading accurately then you need to get a speedo ratio box made up. It is a small reduction box screwed onto the gearbox where the speedo cable goes in and your speedo cable screws straight into it instead. My father made one up for me to use, since he's in the business of working with automotive/marine gauges. Might cost something like $100 though. It took him a lot more than that to get the fittings correct the first time.
