EJ front end into brumby

anyone successfully swapped out the engine x-member, steering rack, suspension, etc, etc from Lib/WRX into a Brumby.... and also the rear end?
I see using Garths 5 stud conversion is an option (if still available) but a wider stance would be nicer and I don't like the idea of wheel spacers.
Saw a Brumby with that kit and WRX 17's, but the wheels seem to sit inwards a little and don't fill the guards quite right. Obviously using aftermarket wheels with wider offset will fix that but who wants aftermarket wheels, unless they are Rays

Y me
ok ive got the complete rear suspenion out of a lib in the rear of my brumby the crossmember IS WIDER there for givin u a WIDER track in the rear
THE FRONT
NO the lib crossmember will NOT fit unless ur willin to get the crossmember shorthened then u still have to make custom brackets where the radious rods are in the brumby now to allow u to bolt up the LIB lower control arms then the gbox crossmember needs mods.
the P/S rack is too big in physical diamater to fit in the MY crossmember
so basicly u can do some of it there is more to it then wat ive listed but this is enough 4 now
but good luck gettin any licence on it

An unnamed Subaru mechanical workshop in Brisbane once built an STI powered brumby for a customer using the EJ engine crossmember, p/s rack, hubs, struts and control arms. Adapters were made for the MY chassis rails to allow the EJ crossmember to bolt straight up. The MY radius plates were modified to allow the EJ lower control arm to bolt up.
It was a very neat job and once it was painted, it would have been hard to pick. Unfortunately the car was never completed.
Not a big job by todays standard for sure.

that is similar to wat i have done (me n my dad) but i havent used the front crossmember as it is bout 30mm wider n i didnt want to make the adaptors for the MY chasis rail the only thing i didnt use was the P/S rack and Crossmember

Don't suppose you could name that "unnamed Subaru mechanical workshop" in brisbane could ya? I can't find anywhere that can do my conversion for me.
I'd do it myself but yeah, i don't think i'm upto it.

subaru shop in Brendale did a full 98 WRX converion to a Brumby, all WRX running gear which needed pumped wheel arches, but I think it got turned into a track car (it had big dollar suspension for starters) was was getting around around Lawnton/Petrie for some time 5 or 6 years ago, or more.
Skippy in Lawnton from the the RS Liberty forum (is he on this one? ) does conversions from time to time, but seems to be heading to later model stuff after the gen1 Libs.... but it doesn't seem to be his main business focus.
OK, so the go would be using the 5stud kit and correct offset wheels.

They don't do conversions anymore. I doubt they'd appriciate the attention.
Have you talked to Brett and Dave? It's what they do.

No, not the BYBs. They finish their conversions.

Different car. That one actually had a JDM GT Forester motor and Proflex front struts. It's street registered and still around. Goes pretty well and is a credit to Darren at Boxer Servicing.

I tried looking up the BYB website but it seems to be MIA cus it's being moved or something. I'm waiting at the moment for Subievolution to get back to me with some prices but I'd say no matter who I go to it will be alot especially when it comes to getting it engineered for road use. At this rate I'll have to wait 3 years till I'm teaching and getting a better wage.

Mate, you are on the BYB site. This is it in all it's glory.
As for engineering and cost, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. No engineering needed for a simple .4 litre capacity increase. Not even a turbo.
I've seen Brett and Dave knock a conversion over in a weekend if they have everthing ready beforehand.
And you wont know the ute afterwards!

Really? no engineering? I'm amazed I thought id have to go through heaps of stuff just to be allowed to drive it on the road. considering it would be going from an ea81 up to an ej22 with like double hp.... to my knowledge. I'll have to do some better research.

You don't believe me?
If engineering was required for a power increase, what would hapen to all those 155kw WRXs (and every other performance car that people play with)out there with huge power-ups. They'd be illegal. All you're doing is adding .4 litre (.1 lire per cyl or 22%) and replacing the carby with EFI. You don't even have to modify the chassis rails or any other structure of the car.
Ask an engineer, I'm a farmer.

No no I believe you don't worry. I was just saying I thought you would have to for an older car considering it was never designed for that much power you know what I mean? But yeah thanks for the info mate and also I think your set-up is awesome too.

Can somebody post a pic or two of an EJ in a Brumby?
Ease of rocker cover removal and spark plugs?

for those photo details concerned you may need to specify std height , lifted and by how much.
NSW allow 15% increase in capacity to be owner certified...otherwise......
