Hey Yo

After seeing all your great looking rides a lift kit 2"-3" is on the cards for the '83 wagon in the new year. I use it as my day to day so I won't go to high. Due to the BYB popularity the new year is my only option. Just wanting to know what else is needed other than the liftkit itself ie. longer shocks, also where do you get 14' rims in WA at a good price of course? Does WA have law restrictions on lifting ya Subaru?

You dont kneed to get longer shocks as the kit has extentions for that .

For some reason the BYB link would not work before. Just tried it and it works fine, all my questions have been answered, I have a few family members that haven't got me a chrissy pressy yet, I can be hard to buy for.hehehe.
Problem now solved

1 x liftkit..(well a card with some money for now)..

Now for some help 2 or 3 inch..recommendations?

I'll get 14 inch rims, no need to be silly..

I'd certainly recommend the 3" kit. If you only lifted it two inches in a month you'll be looking at the car shaking your head saying "You know I really shoulda got that 3" kit instead."

Bigger is always better eh..

I've never been one for half messures, my only concern is what 14' rims and tyres look like on a 3" lift kit, style does come into consideration.

Regret is a large factor tho

Having owned my's with 2", a 3" and a 4" lift kits I'm going to be contravesial and suggest getting 3" at the front and 2" at the back. The back can be wound up a bit further via adjustable torsion bar. also get shocks that don't need an extension.

I've found that the 4" is a bit tall and the blocks/bolts are easily bent or otherwise damaged. 2" is a bit short at the front to comfortably fit 27" tyres without scrubbing whereas 3" is perfect at the front. I've also had issues with shock extensions on the rears.

My current 4by has 3" front and 2" back and is pretty much spot on for what I want. The only thing a body lift does is allow bigger tyres, your low spots ( sump, rear diff ) aren't really affected by body lift but with bigger tyres they get lifted 1/2" for every 1" extra tyre size.

27" tyres are about the biggest you'll want to run under an ea81/ea82 engine so get the appropriate lift kit to fit them comfortably without going too high.

If you're looking up upgrading the engine down the track then maybe a bigger lift will be worthwhile and you can put bigger tyres on it.

So in summary my opinions on the best lift sizes is, 3" front, 2" back with torsion wound up. If you can't get the split sizes then get 3" back to match the front.

I'm not sure on WA rules about lifting but it seems to be general consensus around the states that 2" is the highest you can "legally" go. If you want to remain legal then stick with 2" lift and just cut and hammer the fenders/wheel wells to stop the tyres scrubbing. You'll see where they're scrubbing as it'll be a nice shiny polished metal.

2" is the legal limit in WA.

I'm in Perth also, and I have a hybrid 3" and 2" kit in my MY wagon. I run Monroe GasRiser shocks at the rear (instead of winding out the torsion bars) and I also run 27" tyres.

I can highly recommend this setup, however my only problem with it is that the CV angle at the rear is a bit too extreme for my liking. This is mostly to do with the air shocks though.

The local constabulary are more concerned with stickering Civics and Commodores (bless 'em) so you'll be right with 3". Plus, seeing as most of the kit is 2" anyway its a debatable point.
