Air tank in engine bay?

Would fitting an air compressor tank in the spare wheel well in the engine bay be a bad idea because of the heat??

Yes, it would be.
Doesn't it fit under the rear?

It does but there is a problem using an electric pump because of the duty cycle so im re-investigating the idea of using the air con compressor... problem could be running the air line to the boot though.
Just wanted to see what peoples views were... the tank is fitted with a pressure release valve so it can;t expand enough to blow anything.

always this option. bit exspensive but its 12v with a 100% duty cycle, good for 150psi

Your right... that is very expensive... i wonder how much air comes out of an air con compresser compared to something like that. Seams the max flow i have found for an electric compressor is 72L per minute.... and at about 80PSI they slows right down. Im looking at having 150PSI in my tank so that compressor might be pushing it to try and hold and maintain that pressure.
The compressor i have been trying so far says it's good for 200PSI.... so far i have not managed to get it about 100.
I might try and get hold of the fittings required to pump up the tank using the air con compressor and let you guys know how it goes.
Back on the tank location... Tim what about that Bundy tube you were going to use for your fuel lines??? how much PSI can that handle and would that be suitable for plumbing air from the pump to a tank in the rear??

That will be the best compressor you will ever buy! They are absolutely amazing. They were designed for American 'low riders' with their air suspension & needed LOTS of air quickly.

It would wanna be for that price.

Would it be possible to fit a safety pressure release valve so if it was mounted in the engine bay, and the temp got too high, therefore increasing the pressure too much, the release valve lets some pressure out? Could be set to a pre-determined PSI setting...?
Also is there any scope for fitting the tank under a front wheel arch?

what about- even if it looks an eyesore- on the roof racks or as part of the new rear bar?

Roof racks would look beyond funny... there is enough space for this tank between the fuel tank and rear bar... up nice and high... but i was exploring my options for having it in the engine bay if that did not work out.

3/4hp is roughly 0.56kW
560W divided by 12v gives 47amps. And thats at 100% efficiency.
You would be easy looking at close to 60 amps to run this compressor

if you did put the tank in the engine bay, I'd put it as far back as you can and then make up a heat shield to go around it.

I dont see any problem with having the tank in the engine bay aslong as it has a pressure relief valve...under the guard in front of one of the front tyres wouldnt be a bad place either

Seriously it draws just under 30amps......

Dave hi pressure line is easy to get a hold of try some where like en-zed, as for a price though it been to long and I think my guess could be a little far out.

What's it for ?
With a couple of vents on top of the tank it may not get too hot.

ewww... i aint cutting vents in my bonnet... cop bate over here.
Im aware of the hose BlackMale i have already got some... looks like the engine bay idea has been thrown out... got other plans now... thanks for the input guys.
