LOL there's a difference between the need for decent intake flow on a heavily boosted EJ20G and the need to reduce engine bay temps in a lifted EA82T L series.

What I did to my bonnet was certainly not for looks.

err, bonnet vents are awesome...theres nothing wrong with a riced up lifted l-series, which is actually very capable off-road...

i'll be looking into it as well..

aaawww but the EA82 is such a high performance power monster, no wait I was thinking of something else, perhaps a Reliant Robin :p

Hehe each to their own. Everything is wrong with ricing an offroader to my mind.
I love mods, but not ones that give the impression of "performance" without actually helping performance at all. Anybody who knows the slightest bit about cars looks at those and laughs under their breath :)

Matt's car could actually benefit from a vent in the bonnet above the turbo, although it is kindof overkill for an EA82 at least it has SOME merit!

yeh im all for mods that have even the least bit of mechanical benefit. so then i cant be classed as a ricer.
but if they arent really gonna help much theres no point in wasting time and $.

My cousin put a WRX-style scoop on his MY. It actually looks quite good, and it serves a functional purpose -- feeding fresh air efficiently to the TMIC.

Your cousin's MY should already be getting plenty of fresh air to the TMIC as it should be sitting about 1 foot above where the bonnet goes. He's the one who didn't have to modify his chassis rails to fit the motor right? So the motor must be sitting above where the rails go right??

I guess if they did a lot good, subaru would still be putting them on to wrx's. I can see heat shimmer from the ones in my wrx though and any lowering of underbonnet temprature surely must be a good thing.

Matt, seriously, a bonnet vent is going to make virtually no difference at all to the performance of your EA82. If you're worried about exhaust heat in the engine bay, fibreglass wrap your up and downpipes. The turbo is already watercooled, so there's little point in trying to cool the air around it.

So like many of the mods I've seen the L brigade perform, its just

ebay is baddddddddddd mmmmk :P u buy vents and kits from ebay more than likely it will neva fit or cost an arm and a leg to fix up.

Tim, the link to that picture is broken...but I think the little red cross illustrates your point well enough anyway :)

Yeah don't work here either Tim...

Who was the one with the Neon gear knob? I thought it was u Matt... if so... then at no point can u claim not to be a ricer... LOL

I agree with the pointlessness (if thats even a word) of the vents.... if your going to do it then i suggest u get a spare bonnet ready cos if you get stickered again they wont like it at the pits.

Never buy anything off ebay that you can't make out of an MY door pocket... isn't that right Tim. LOL

What you could do in the mean time is to add an intercooler water spray.

Now there's a cheap mod that actually does improve performance. I made one myself for under $20, system consisted of an XW-XY Falcon washer bottle & pump, 6mm retic tube and 4x 180 degree fine mist sprinklers. When it was switched on there was a noticeable increase in performance after a few seconds, worked really good on cold nights when I had been heavy on the throttle.

And for the record Boss, you know that MY door pocket was there for a reason. I didn't want it there but it was needed.

yeh thought once about the water spray. did the switch make it run continously? or little squirts or somethin? might look into this

If I was going to do it again I'd have it on a microswitch that activates at 2/3 throttle, although an on/off toggle works pretty good too.
