when you guys are purchasing your struts & springs to do your lift kit you would purchase sedan struts for the rear .

why have you assumed we all buy sedan struts?? In KYB atleast theres no such thing as a sedan strut, only the springs differ

You have to options in Gen1 king springs FWD and AWD rears. I have FWD rears, theyre softer and ride more comfortably than the AWD - BUT they have more coils and im pretty sure the coils hit eachother before the strut is fully compressed (is that what you mean by bind?)

You also have lots of options in outback struts / springs too

give us more details - what are you trying to do here

yes I have AWD rears , and found the coil bind ( hit each other before they hit the bump stops )

I have made now a top hat for the rear
in doing this I have moved the spring up and now have no coil bind & I think by the look of it 170mm of wheel travel .

The wagon feels realy good now & takes the bumps with out droping the spring base on the top of the tyre .

I have the KYB on the rear with king springs front has outback 2.5ltr 96>11th 98 struts & king springs .

I think may have fallen into this trap & should have a look at the rear set up they have .

The best setup is to just go the Outback spring and strut setup. Although the rear needs some massaging to clear the spring the effort is worth it.

G day guys i have a 89 liberty wagon. I am looking to convert the airbags to struts, i really like the sound of using outback struts. To all those who have already gone down this path
did you use new or wrecked parts?
what parts do i need?
where can i get these parts from? especially wrecked parts from interstate, tried to find wrecked outback parts in SA but no go.
what sort of cost will i be looking at?

any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated!!

Any wreckers worth a pinch of salt would get a set in for you.
