just about to swap auto pedal box for manual pedal box, looks a little trickier than i thought, if there are any pointers that will prevent me from throwing the lot in the drink could someone let me know?

i.e: should i disconnect brake linkage, and then pull brake booster out from the engine bay? should i pull the ecu out?

cheers,
Gus.

I have pulled out manual pedal boxes from MY and L series (very similar to each other but not interchangeable without mods) without any troubles, though I think it was clutch pedal off before install and shove it back when box in place. Cannot see why more than disconnect the brake push rod is necessary. Break the little plastic safety thing off pin at pedal

Are the manual pedal boxes really any different to auto ?

Other makes of car can just be swap pedals and clutch pedal fits in without pedal box change.

Woulda though you might try to slide big pivot pin towards outside edge, slip off auto brake pedal, slip on manual and clutch pedals , same box ?

You were right Jono, i ended up just pulling the auto cross pedal bolt out, re-inserting the manual one through the manual brake pedal and then the clutch pedal. Was easy enough after all that, won't know if it works untill i have got the gearbox on and everything hooked up...

cheers for your help,
Gus.

Could you let me know if it works, as I'll be swapping the pedal boxes over next weekend probably.

Cheers

L-turbo i got the gearbox on a few hours after i posted the last comment, and hooked the clutch cable up and she works a treat. It isn't too tricky, the most trouble i had was getting the surclip off the auto cross-pedal bolt at the passenger side end (took about an hour and lots of swearing, got a flashlight and figured out what i had been doing wrong and it took ten seconds!) the rest was pretty straightforward.
It says to drop the steering column in the manual, but i just took off the facia etc and unbolted the ecu, let it hang and worked around it.

hope it goes ok,
Gus.

Hi Soobygus

What did you do with all the electronics stuff? I have just had a proper look and there is a hell of a lot more electronics junk coming of the auto box than the manual box and the connections a different. I am going to have to spend more time on this, but what did you do? have you connected anything up yet?

Cheers

L- Turbo: good point- my plan is to get everything else hooked up, then get onto the wiring. I think a manual should have wiring diagrams for the auto box and the manual box, but as far as i can tell as long as you have the wires that sense where the select lever of the auto is- so you can join the right ones so it thinks it is in 'park' or 'neutral' all the time, and will therefore start, and then if you join the reverse sensor wires with the reverse sensor wires from the manual box the basics will be covered.

i am not going to worry about 4wd dash lights etc, at the moment, but as long as you join the right wires you should be sweet- someone should know which wires?

Did this swap years ago & you've done it correctly.
