ok guys... it car starts!

but... the whining noise I mentioned in my previous post is still there and it does not look good! :(

it appears the pressure plate is rubbing against the transmission housing!!! how could that happen? does the ej20g crank at the back of the engine stand out more than on the NA version ej20?!

was there somekind of spacer I was suppesed to use?

I'm gonna ask a real dumb question here so feel free to abuse me, but if I don't ask I'll never know....

If the flywheel is rubbing on the engine crossmemeber (albeit incorrectly) what is keeping all the sand, mud, rocks etc out of the flywheel when doing the things we do with our soobs?

I have an interest here as I have a knock somewhere upfront when shifting in FWD, feels like a loose CV, but they seem fine. Car had a bad hit to the front left wheel ripping out the captive nuts. That's all fixed now, however the knock remains....

Any ideas?

Smokey.

well, I don't have an asnwear to your question... :) but a lot of cars have an opening to the flywheel where dirt can get into...

knock? from inside the gearbox? only when you shift? could be the pilot bearing inside the flywheel...
