EJ conversion: simple question about gearbox clearance without lift kit

Post by El_Freddo » Mon Aug 07, 2006 2:35 pm

If i was going to put the Ej gearbox in with the conversion, does the gearbox have enough clearance to fit in without a lift kit?

Or will the gearbox and engine cross members need to be spaced a little bit?

Cheers

i'd like to get a hi/lo range liberty or better... autos are for lazy people... D for drag i say... ;)

Ultimately i'll be running with a 3 inch lift kit and use the standard wheel size from the donor car that the box came from...

Nice, that's what i like to hear... hopefully a dual range awd box isn't much bigger than a single range... Now to get some money...

my original conversion was ej20t+4eat and everything bolted up without any major mods... transmission fitted really well and no tailshaft mods were required....

now I've fried the auto and in the process of putting in an awd dual-range box... I'm having problems with tailshaft clearence because of the shifter...

the car was an auto originally and I got the shift stick and brackets out of the donor car (Impreza '97) and it looks like there is not enough room to let the shifter-brackets and tailshaft to fit properly without mods to the tunnel... has anyone experinced this problem? how did you deal with it?

also... it looks like I have to lengthen the tailshaft... what lenght do I have to add to the auto shaft in order for it to fit the dual-range box? 120mm - or was that for some other gearboxes?
