hi,

im after some new struts/shocks, apparantly KYB's are hard to get at them moment, and i have been told monroe are just as good or better, is this true? or are there any other brands i should be looking at? i will be on-road 95% of the time, but i also want something which will stand up well offraod!

kyb are the preferred option ,having said that I have used munroe shocks on subies before and must admit i had no problen with them what so ever
I had heavy duty struts up front and pump up shockies in the back to help with heay loads trailers etc and all work very well
Al as good as new when i sold the car, put about 60000km on the and showed no sign of trouble.

Would i buy munroe again? yes i would,
Im toying with pumpups for the rear again because one of my rear shocks is becoming suspect.

The Monroes I got were crapola, I popped both rears on my first trip away with them, admittedly this was after a couple hundred kays of corrigations, but they were brand new. And even though the old original shocks were shot, the Monroes didn't seem to ride the bumps as nice.

Just my experience.

I have them on my L Wagon - they tend to push the ass up. I would go KYB if I had the choice. Nothing wrong with my monroes - they have been in the car for 3 years now - just would have preferred KYB.

Monroe shocks run a different spring at the back on an L series too. Not sure what the difference is, but its a different Kings Springs part number.

Yup the spring is thinner in overall diameter. I have them in my car. Still works well.

Sorry about the delay Alex - who said KYB's are hard to get atm? i have was speaking to WA suspention a approx 2-3 months ago and they told me no probs, and they have always been good with me. Did you try them? i would find it hard to beleive that the state has run out of stock in this time.

I have had a set of Munroe struts on the rear of my L wagon and they felt very soft in dampening and eventually bent, go the KYBs

I just put the same o/e springs on the Monroes....it goes alright...a few years now......

I can confirm about the Monroes front struts, way too bloody soft for off-road
you need more dampening, Gabriels are just a tad better.

Are the gabriels in Super cheap auto the same as the ones that you buy at a auto parts retailer, cos the Sca gabriels are half as cheap as the other gabriels that i looked at

What would a set of KYB's set me back??
