Guys, the answer is in all probability hidden in a thread somewhere, but.
Which 5 speed gearbox is the preferred option to transplant onto an EA 81, is an EA 82 5 speed a relatively easy transplant & if so what specifically does it entail?
I have access to a complete 97 wagon EA82 therefore all parts

here you go the hardest part is the tailshaft centre bearing mount points

and a 97 "L" series would be pretty rare

as they did stop making them in 1994

Retaining MY D/R selector with L 5 speed G/Box

I bought a Brumby with this conversion, it had the 5 speed dual range selector inserted in place of the MY selector - which I did not like.
Silverbullet says he may have sorted out a way of retaining the MY selector with the 5 speed.
It clearlu has been done as here is a brumby for sale that has it ie a EA82 engine and gearbox with the MY dual range selector still in situ

is the 97 an 87 praps ?

More importantly is it an efi ? The efi manual boxes had 25 spline stubs and a bit of a problem when it comes to mix n match to make Brumby CV shafts all fit up and work. If you have plenty of the readys it can be simpler to get a one piece tailshaft made up to avoid the centre bearing install. An L Series two piece is probably just a few mm longer than needed, so maybe if to mak a one piece measured on the 2 piece short by a few mm if at all, would be the guide.
