Searching for cheap crap on ebay I came across this little chap for just shy of $10
It is a temp gauge, clock and voltmeter and has a backup battery so it remembers the time when you turn it off

So i got 2, one green one for the Outback and an orange one for the RXand extended the temp probes using some twin shielded cable.

and mounted the green one to the left of the steering wheel in the Outback.

Looks good. Does it mount flush in the dash? Where are the buttons to control it?

Cool.. Is there temp gauges that you can set an "over temp" alarm on them? Just thinking because sometimes the boss doesn't look at gauges until a light or alarm comes on :(

Is this to my response? as this is a controller to switch fans (or the likes) on and off but what I'm looking for is something that sensor when it gets too hot, it sets on a light or audible alarm.. like a high over temp alarm

Oh, shileded cable. What could happen without shielded, shileding ?

Been looking for the twin or dual zone, dual probe gauge someone found on ebay - about $30. Anyone know how to find, for 12V of course.

There used to be a good 'un from Jaycar, small, LCD, button battery powered which had settable over/under temp audible alarms, max/min values, a metal temp probe and a good temp range (-50 to +150C or perhaps even 300C). Only issue was it had a 1m cable but that could perhaps be extended. They have a suction cup but that could be replaced with (say) velcro or double-sided sticky tape. Also, perhaps the button cells could be rewired to AAA for longer battery life. They are not illuminated.

I have several of them around my work laboratory.

The model used to be ST-9290 but Jaycar unfortunately no longer list this item on their website. It may be possible some are left over at your local dealer.

The nearest I can find is ST9290D from Bacto Labs (bacto.com.au) for $23 which appears similar although it seems to have a smaller display area.
