Great thread from Toonga re the L series disc brake conversion but do the Leone rear ends go across to the Brumby's or only the L series and or Vortex

L and Vortex have a wider track for starters. There has been the odd non MY suspension set up in the back ends of Brumbies etc, may not be ADR approved, or for succesful on road use. If you do take up the challenge document it in here eh!

From what I've heard, they bolt straight across onto the Brumby/MY

Best way to check would be to get the drum brake backing plate off an L series (cos 99% of them have this & they're worth next to nothing), and see if it bolts onto an MY.
If that works, then the disc brake rear end will too because thats a direct bolt on replacement for the L series.

If you do the rear brake conversion, then you should also upgrade the fronts to L series spec. There's no difference between NA/turbo on the fronts.

The di$c brake rear end$ from the L series and or Vortex bolt straight on, as do the Leone rear ends ... I'm assuming you mean the drum rear end from the leone.

or are you talking about the MY leone turbo AWD sedan, with the disc brake rear end? once again this bolts straight on as well.

MY series and L.Series have the same bolt up pattern for the backing plates, whether their drum or disc. If you're converting from drum to disc, you'll need to grab everything from the disc setup, i.e. brake line hoses, bolts, clips, etc.. I would suggest you remove all of the drum parts and throw them in a box and once you have the disc fitted and working correctly.. just throw that box away :)

think oz is actually asking if the rear end suspension assy from L and Vorts go in a Brumby as a bolt in - just not in so many words - only a direct bolt in for the L Series Brumby unfortunately :(

Oh.. if it's the rear K-frame from the L in to the MY then the answer is no. Why would you bother? The MY has the adjustable torsion bar as opposed to the L :( Only thing the MY needs is sway bar mountings, which can be welded on quite easierly.

The other thing you need to be really specific about is the hub for the disc to mount on - the 2wd is different to the 4wd unit, this is the only difference in the rear disc setups for the 2 vs 4wd ;)

On a side note, L series self adjusting drum brakes can be swapped onto the MY's but you need the L series backing plate and drums as well ;)

Ah! Thanks Bennie! I've all but given up on finding a rear disc setup along with some Scorpion rims but the L series self adjusters will be better than the manual MY ones. Hopefully with braided lines, L or Lib brake booster and serviced master cylinder rear drums could be bearable

I swapped out the original MY drum brakes for a set of L series self adjusters on Sunnie the Brumby.

It's a good time to replace the slave cylinders too ;)
