Lib or WRX P/steering into MY?

Been thinking about this long and hard for a while now, what am I going to do about power steering in my wagon? I've got the pump and bracket from and MY but no rack or lines as yet. I don't know how hard it's going to be to track one down but it would surely be easier to source an early Liberty or WRX rack right? and easier to find parts for...but will it fit? I've read the Lib racks have different angles for the steering column to join to, some racks are longer etc etc. Having never actually seen any kind of power steering rack up close I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of what's involved.

The car will have a lift kit if it makes things any easier for joining the column up. And I'm guessing custom lines would have to be made. A later model rack would be preferable if it could be made to fit reasonably simply IMO, but I don't want to go out and source one, spend the money and find it's an impossible task. I've seen SUBIIE's thread where he modifies a WRX rack to fit his Brum cross member, he talks of filing out mounting holes and cutting the rack ends shorter and cutting new threads so it must be reasonably simple.

Thoughts/ideas much appreciated from those more experienced in this field :)

Why WRX and not just an Impreza rack - brag factor ??

I dunno, just fancied the letters at the time? I meant Impreza, they're all the same right?

Asking a former Brumby owner this morning (he built his up before selling it) says he didn't have power steering because the stock MY system is woeful (leaky and no feel at the wheel) and Liberty or Impreza racks have no chance of fitting, completely different mounting holes and length.

Bugger :-?

I think you will find the leaky part of the power steering setup will be the pump. The seals are going to be 30 years old and in need of some TLC. I quite like my power steering setup, I assume the liberty or impreza setup would be nicer but I'm not so sure it's chalk and cheese. Anything beats a manual rack...

I agree with you on that one :) Up until now my plan was a stock setup, but seeing SUBIIE's thread got me thinking. Whatever I end up doing I'll get the pump and rack rebuilt/new seals where possible.

Thanks for reminding me TOONGA, I saw that the other day might have to send him a PM.
