Hi guys, The mirrors on my L wagon are dangerously useless so I want to change them to something that I can actually see with... Has anyone done any swaps with newer cars without such magnifying mirrors?

I never seen 'magnifying' mirrors on an L. Has someone fitted up those convex mirrors on top of original facing?

They look original - when driving along the mirrors focus on the car 50m behind me and my blind spot I huge :S

I use the smaller convex mirrors stuck to the inside bottom corner, adjust mirrors to suit and check view in both mirrors to get big picture. Head check suits me also.....

Yeah I've got one of those, the mirror is so much more crap than any other one I've ever used!

To me these are some of the best mirrors around, even compared to newer vehicles with their curved mirrors that make things look further away than they really are.

These mirrors are not big but they do the job well IMO - learn how to properly check your blind spots. There are so many people out there these days that are lazy drivers and don't do their head check of their blind spots, it's easy to do an much more effective than any mirror you could possibly use. Don't get me started on those new blind spot detecting light gizmos they now have on new cars.

There is nothing dangerous about these mirror - make sure you've got them set right so that you have a small reference of the body of your L series and can see a bit of the road behind you, not directly below the back of the car but so that you can see the traffic behind you. Once setup properly and you get used to them, you'll love them I'm sure!

I enjoy driving cars that I have to actually drive - newer cars don't excite me at all as they're built for those that like to sit behind a steering wheel and feel like they're driving.

I'm not shooting you down, just sharing my general opinion on this

I agree, I hate the new "see everything" mirrors that don't let you see anything without going cross eyed...

I think I've got the drivers side sorted but still not happy with passenger side - I'll keep trying!

I'm sure it will be a case of just getting used to it. I really do love my side mirrors - but have to have them setup in the way I mentioned in my previous post. If my wife has been driving my car I need to re-adjust my side mirrors in a particular way... Sounds a bit OCD when I say it like that!
