Hey all, i have a quick question. I am wanting to build up a turbo engine for my 98 forester. I have looked around and can not find a straight forward answer.
Will a ej22 bolt in my forester. I will buy a separate engine and It will be rebuilt to handle a turbo setup, time and money is not an issue. I know i could just sell my one and just buy a GT forester, but i enjoy building engines ( but am new to the world subaru's ). So just need to start some where and need to know what will fit and what wont. Also if anyone has done this conversion any info is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Jason.

An EJ22 is the same as an EJ20 physically, just the capacity and internals are different to suit the EJ22.
So yes it will bolt in without any issues. If you've got an 8 bolt gearbox and a 4 bolt engine it'll be fine with the 4 bolts only, same with the vise-versa setup. Try and get an EJ22 that is nearest to the same year as your foz.
Wiring/engine management: The EJ20 system *should* but up to the task of running the EJ22, but it might lean out the engine, long term this isn't good for the engine.
Best bet is to run the matching EJ22 loom. Al at AMauto.com does loom cut downs that will make it plug and play to what you have.
If you've got an EJ25 you could possibly get away with dropping the EJ22 in and going from there, it may run rich some times though.
What are you going to built the turbo engine from? Or are you going to do a half cut turbo conversion? Any loom issues contact Al about them, his work is great and a couple of mates are running a H6 conversion in their foz/liberty, both done by Al, both top quality work too.
If you get bored with the turbo, H6 + manual gearbox = mega awesome combo! I'm sure Hydrowill will agree as he's just done a manual conversion on his H6
There's loads of info around on here, use the search function then ask questions if you can't find what you want.
