On another forum saw a brilliant method to clean cast iron stuff from the rust build up.

http://www.usmuscle.com.au/Forum/showthread.php?t=10481 'bout 3/4 way down slider - pics of exhaust manifolds in foam boxes for starters....

I could put a link to one thread that features it but pics of result not as good as same posters original thread - may have been changed - will look harder for it.
Basically, an engine block - cast iron V8 block in this case, in a plastic 'bath' tub, was it carb soda mix ? two electrodes immersed either side and a old battery charger hooked up to the electrodes. Not sure if it was 24hrs or a week of 24hrs, it bubbled the rusty crud off the cast iron.

Wonder if same can be done for aluminium alloy components.

Also some good panel repairs painting going on by same poster.

Here's a sweeter way to remove rust from cast.

Slow, but does a good job, the simple "natural" way to do it.
Have a friend with a couple off 44's set up to do this.

POR 15 does a great job, but expensive. KBS is an Australian alternative and isn't too expensive and is fantastic. They do kits, and the paint is the BOMB.
