i am going to be building an ea81 for my brumby and ive been thinking either to go with dual carbs or fuel injection, which one will be better and make more power? i know ram engines do a fuel injection kit but thats close to $2000 and thats not including shipping from USA, any help would be appreciated.
cheers, Kieran

the easiest way to do it would be
SPFI
or you could try and get a set of factory MPFI heads from the USA. (they were used on the turbo EA81 motor)
or find some one who is very skilled with aluminium and get 4 bosses (2 per head) put onto a set of standard EA81 heads. then steal the computer, sensors, dizzy, plumbing, injectors, fuel pump from an EA82 MPFI and get it to run on the EA81
Research the light aircraft sites there is a wealth of information on modifying the EA81.

Heavily modified ea81 heads

I had links to heaps of other engine sites but most of them have either moved on the web or shut down.

The best way to go is EJ22 conversion.. the cheapest and best tested method for any Brumby.

Stupid phone... can't edit that last unfinished post. Was trying to say it's not cheap in terms of classic Subarus, but chicken shit in terms of what people can spend on motors.

Damn, I had post on here that was uploading last night, then my net went screwie and it clearly didn't upload.
I had noted the same as Toonga about the SPFI setup - but you'd have to get someone from the US to send you a kit with everything it needs to run properly. It'd be a big box to send over and a bit of fun I reckon.
I also know of the old holden camira - I think there was a SPFI setup on those at some point before they went with the MPFI - it was one of the conversions that used to be done from what I've heard -> SPFI camira injector, loom and computer to run the EA81. That said I've never actually seen one, only heard about it.
I've had a thought about the MPFI kit on the EA81. The subaru MPFI is a batch fire job, which means that two of the injectors are paired together and always fire at the same time. Put the two that fire together on the same inlet and go from there. I'm 99% sure it would work with the correct fitting of the injectors and the TPS.
Sounds like a project for me to have a go at... Some day, maybe
Cheers

So this EA81 MPFI setup is no longer just myth and conjecture? Someone has the heads in their hands? That was quick!

If you look closely one has the return line for the turbo which isn't a problem.
It was quite amazing to see some of the stuff that came out of RSR555
