In my opinion the sv21 camry motors are a gutless motor, couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding.
As far as putting it in a Subi , OH THE HORROR!!!!!!!  :x

Good luck too. Being an inline motor it's far too long to put in the Subaru.

I think it's time you popped the hood on both cars and had a good look. The Camry's motor is mounted east / west, is an inline four and has mountings on the front and back of the block and the head. The Subaru has a north / south mounted flat four, all of the motor's mass is forward of the front axle and it has two mounts under the motor and a small pitch rod.

I'm guessing the L series you have isn't an MPFI model, they have similar performance to an SV21.

Your realistic upgrade option is to fit a motor from a Liberty, this has another 200cc and will actually fit.

errr...just buy a liberty?

seriously, why go to all the effort to go from one pus box to another? Just buy a lib - you can prolly pick one up for the price of changing engines.

sorry L owners. I'm all for conversions, but honestly, an SV21 L Series? It's like doing up a lada samara.

Paul,

I thought you'd be the absolutely positively LAST person to criticise people for outlandish conversions into subaus?!?

Tim does make a valid point about engine/gearbox placement, and workings. Yes, may be a strategic nightmare to get the whole thing to work, but I believe there may some reason behind the madness.

The 3S motor is nothing to be sneezed at. The 3SFE motor shouldn't be knocked, sure, they're no EJ20T, 4G63T, RB26DET, or a 13BT, but they were a pretty damned sophisticated motor back in its heyday, delivering a good balance of power and economy, and their reliability...must we question a toyota's reliability???

Theoretically speaking, If i had the choice between an EA82, and a 3SFE, i'd take the toyota motor, no worries!! (No disrespect to the subaru die hards here, of course!)

Probably, Kepp, the best response I can come up for you is: Keep the camry, keep the L for weekends

lol i was waiting for someone to pipe up.

I'm all for conversions and being creative. But I put a 230kw rotor - I didn't go from an EA81 to an AE71.

I didn't go from one 70kw motor to another. I'm not bagging him, I was just saying if you're going to go to so much effort, you're most likely better to put something more worthwhile in. Even an EJ18 or EA82 turbo which you'd probably pick up for the price of a privately sold SV21.

I believe the SV21 was the best camry toyota ever made. you're absolutely right in that they are very reliable with a good balance of power etc.

But all the same, whilst I appreciate conversions and promote them, I do feel people should move forward not sideways. I hate nothing more than seeing an $80,000 lancer gli with every conceivable wog option. to me that's not modifying. that's buying a car and tipping money over it.

just my 2 cents!

no hard feelings Paul ;) Im sure you copped a lot of flack for your conversion (which I absolutely admire, mind you), and I remember some of the responses you got from others here on the old forums, not all positive...

I do totally agree with what you said in your last post though.. if you're spending the money on a conversion, its best to move foward and not sideways (well, there's nothing wrong with a car moving sideways from where I'm from :P)

I'll second that, but its a bit scary too when you've seen a Leone coupe that's flipped before. The roof isn't as strong as you might think.... keep the power on and don't go near the kerbs.

Three votes unanomous!
But I do prefer the four rooster tails of gravel to the smoke.
Much easier and nicer to go through a farm fence than go through someones front hedge or loungeroom window.

Oh yes, Will was right, boost is addictive.

No pic I'm afraid. Was on TV a couple of years ago, roof was basically crushed flat.

My coupe is not going to be roadworthy, ever. Its bits are going to live on though.

damn. would have loved to have raced you.

actually i'm looking to turn my leone into a track car and buy a brumby to drive around in.

the leone is cool but no overly fuel efficient and practical for daily driving
