Hey there,

My name is Johannes, I come from Germany. So at first i have to say sorry for my poor English.

I am trying to get an EJ25 DOHC from ´98 running in a VW Vanagon Syncro from ´92 former powered by a 112hp DJ engine.

The mechanical parts aint the problem, where is no problem that can realy shock me ;)

But the Electronic things.... :? :confused: Well for the basic things we have a "verry good wiring plan" for the EJ22 coming somewhere from the US that should help a lot.

But my special problem is the Imobilizer (Wegfahrsperre in german) most of the EJ25 conversations done around here are based on keeping the original Key + Transponder combination. Thats... well its not realy an option for me;)

So I would be realy glad if annyone could help me out with some specific informations to wiring oft the EJ25 in general and its imobilizer in special.

Damn, the forum ate my article by logging me out, so here again:

I knew this advice would come ;) but it seems much harder to follow in a foreign Language as there are manny tecnical terms missing.

You asked for photos, so here is the first one, showing my Vanagon naked after 2 years of total restauration:

By now I refitted the Weels and the old, nonlocking difs, as wel las the old DJ Wasserboxer to get the whole thing running again asap. Afterwards I will fitt the new revised locking differentials, and the EJ25.

Holy crap that's insane! I'm guessing it's pretty stable! Am I correct in saying its a 4wd? The front hub seems to be splined for a drive shaft...

I didn't think about the foreign language with the searching. It's fair enough too - you're one language up on me, unless you call bullshit a second language.

Yeah Bennie Syncro's are 4WD. Look them up on youtube, where they can go will absolutely shock and amaze you. The key is viscous coupling ;)

My German is very poor these days, haven't practiced in a while :rolleyes: Although I cannot help you I am very interested in seeing your van progress; my Dad and I are interested in VW's although we don't own one, and the T3 Syncro's blew me away in how capable they are offroad.

I tryed the "Insert Immage" Buton, but it seemed not to work, maybee because it writes the "IMG" in upper case letters?

Bullshit is definitely a second language as well as local dialects are, so I guess i am a language genious :D

@Bennie: Yeah, you´re right it´s a 4WD, the name "Syncro" referes to VWs early 4WDs using the viscous cuppling Silverbulet talked about.

@Silverbullet: nearby;) it should be

(little question btw: Is the german ü (ue) displayed correct or do i have to write it as "ue"? )

To the Toppic: Can you tell me if an Australian EJ25 DOHC engine from ´98 had an Immobilizer? If not i could possibly use an Australian ECU to replace mine...

Guten Tag Johannes

I believe the 98 Subaru Outback and Subaru RX Liberty both came with th EJ25 DOHC (code name EJ25D) engine in Aus. I can't recall them having the microchip ignition key immobilizer in them. Guy (aka Guyph_01) is dismantling a 97 or 98 Outback (with the EJ25D) if you want to PM him and if you ask Julian (aka TOONGA) for the wiring diagram, then you should get a bit closer to your result.

BTW.. if you find any wiring diagrams or info on the Russian EJ25 DOHC from the 2000 model Lancaster, could you please let me know.

Cool Van:) yeah i'm wreaking a 96 EJ25 quad cam outback. If you need anything i can help you with let me know.

By the way, The wiring diagrams or info on the Russian EJ25 DOHC from the 2000 model Lancaster Paul is looking for is actually for my car. I'm having an engine code and need a diagram to solve it.
The engine, chassis details are
Model:BH905AE
Engine num:EJ254DXDBE
Chassis num:BH9-061735

It would help a lot if you have any info on it.

Keep up the good work on the van and keep the pics coming. We LOVE pics on ausubaru:)

Thanks for the roses ;) Pictures will keep comming, next Saturday i´ll hopefully do the first test ride (with the Old engine and without Dors and front Diff )

Im soure there will be a chance to take a photo... or two ;)

I´ll lok out for the informations about the Russian Lancaster. Can it be that ist´s the same car called Legacy in Germany?

If youre slaughtering (we say "schlachten" = "slaughtering" in germany) the EJ25D will you have the ECU left over? If so i´d possibly give it a try to runn my EJ25D on your Australian ECU...

Ouuukay^^ If i´m honest... I didn´t understand a word ;)

The question of "how to get it down" was thrown up in Facebook too, if you look verrrry closely you will see a green girder at the right side above the window in the background. That belongs to the crane which is standing right above me while takling the Photo. So i put two arbors underneath the chassis, hook in 4 slings and let my bus fly ;)

For the rest of you: Here are some verrry early pictures:

First one showing the Bus while sandblasting it from below. The left sidepart is missing, i replaced it completely because of the rust. The b-pillar folowed later on because some idiot dit some crappy welding on it before my time.

It was more staple than it may look;) And: You see the hardest Suspension ever built in a Vanagon :D

Second one showing the redesigned outline of the roof to fit it to a sliding roof of a Ford Ka

Final one showing... Well a cann of Coffe, a 3 Litre canister of Epoxy resin and a 60litre barrel of 15-W40 engine oil. Ah, and in the upper left there is an empty bag of "Lachgummi" a fruity jelly thing i like verry much.
