L series lift kit
L series lift kit
Does anyone have a full listing of the contents of an L series lift kit.
Talked to a bloke and briefly looked at today the contents of a kit.
What I saw were the two front struts with what looked like spacer parts, and what looked like King springs (yellow/orange colour) and also rear shocks with the lift kit spacer parts fitted. I didnt have time for a good look but there were solid lift kit components (aluminum block not tube) and bolts included.
It is being kept for me with a price of $200.00 but till I know details that is how it sits.
To me it looks like a Scorpion kit like what I fillted to the MY wagon but I am not sure.

You'll need the components that look like this:

Although there are parts in there that I can't identify where they go. All blocks should be the same size. By the looks of this photo, the way they've dropped the rear diff is by adding a plate onto the moustache bar, which stays where it is.
In most lift kits the moustache bar drops down as well with the rear diff instead of the plate trick, so each side of the moustache bar will have it's own lift blocks too.
I hope this helps, it was one of the lift block images I could find on google images
Here's another one:

From here. Image is still small on the website too
As you can see, there are many different ways to produce a lift kit, but they all essentially do the same thing - you just need to work out what goes where

Thanks heaps.
When I get a chance I will have a look and compare with the bits in the box.
I like the fact the kit comes with the front struts and heavy duty springs. Not sure if the rear shocks are there but they may be.
For everything to be assemblied the kit is 2nd hand and has been used before but it still seems to be good value.
I need to sell my Brumby/MY bull bar first though.
Thanks heaps.

For $200 seems to be very good value. Sounds like a strut lift not full body lift, incl King springs. I wonder what the struts are like...does anyone know of a way of testing them outside the car without pulling off the springs?

What I saw in the minute or so I had available were:
2 x front struts with King Springs and strut top spacers
2 x rear strut extension pieces (dont know if struts/springs etc included could only see the extention pieces)
1 or 2 solid aluminum spacer blocks that looked about 2" high.
A variety of bolts.
When I saw the aluminum blocks I recalled they looked very much like Scorpion Subaru kit parts (as I purchased and fitted to the MY some time ago). It looked like someone has previously had the kit fitted to a car and removed the struts compete later on. May have fitted standard struts/springs in their place.
In hindsight I wish I would have taken more time to have a look. Oh well, I will check things out next week.
The owner said he could sell the kit on ebay but then he would have to package them up and as he was not sure if the whole kit was there it would be more trouble than what it was worth to him. We talked for a while about kits and as I had the lifted MY with me at the time I asked if the kit had reinforced spacer parts or solid. This is when I had my quick look and noted the solid spacer parts.

After viewing the kit again today I can say it is made from 50mm square aluminium blocks, the rear strut extender brackets are attached to the struts and the front struts have the extension piece fitted to the strut and are labelled, eg, DS (drivers side etc)
It comes with KYB struts and KFFS-45 King springs on the front. The rear extension brackets which are still mounted on the struts again with King springs and are type KSRS-03X which are fitted. Strut brand on the rear is unknown though.
There is the usual steering extension piece and a variety of bolts etc.
There is another aluminium piece which is shaped a bit like a pyramid with a flat on the top. I have no idea where this is for.
Is anyone able to ID this last piece ?
I have not seen anything like this in any pictures I can find or have been sent.
I hope to get back and take some pictures later in the week.

Do you mean 50mm RHS? Or a solid block with holes drilled in it? If RHS, does it have an offset? If they're labelled driver's side, pass side, then I'm guessing it must have an offset or it wouldnt matter. Are you sure its aluminium?Cliff R wrote:After viewing the kit again today I can say it is made from 50mm square aluminium blocks, the rear strut extender brackets are attached to the struts and the front struts have the extension piece fitted to the strut and are labelled, eg, DS (drivers side etc)

I wonder if this "pyramid" piece is for the diff???
I think you need to post some pics

I agree pics will help.
Yes, the whole kit is solid aluminuim, no reinforced RHS.
Honestly, as I have gotten older caution has set in and while the whole kit is certainly good value I dont know the condition of the shocks (KYB or whatever) I already have new front springs on hand if needed and I can buy new King springs for the rear.
I hope to get to have a look at the kit tomorrow or over the weekend and will take pics but if I cant positively ID the kit and all its parts I dont need the aggrivation of trying to sort this all out at the moment so unless I get a rush of blood to the head I may well pass on this kit for now. Me things timing belts, water pump, oil pump and sorting out this freaking anoying paint issue may be a bit more important and satisfying. I will speak to the owner on his OK to pass his contact info on if I decide to pass and give this info to the forum. NOTE- I do know this will have to be a pick up as the owner is not interested in packaging anything.
I will let you know how I go asap.

No unfortunately we all have to do thatCliff R wrote:OK I am struggling to get pictures to show.
I also am having with imageshack.
Is there a better/easier way to simply copy pictures from my computer to the forum without using a 3rd party such as Imageshack ?

Once you upload an image to imageshack, left click on the "forum" code, eg, [IMG]http://img690.imageshack.us/.....etc to highlight it, then right click to copy, then paste on your post.

Look out, I'm getting the hang of this picture thing !!!
Note, in the whole kit picture there are no bolts. This is cause I didnt take any pictures of them as I didnt think it was necessary. They are there though. The owner said he pulled the kit out of the car but cant recall where the pyramid bit goes.

Looks like the strut tops do have camber adjustment.
Cant comment on how complete the rest is or where they go, esp that funny lil pyramid piece lol.
I like the solid blocks instead of just RHS
I wonder if anyone else can help with this?

The 2 holes do go right through on the pyramid piece and I am not familiar with what the moustach bar is so I cant say anthing about this. Can someone let me know a bit more about this part (moustach bar) and I could get a hold of the pyramid piece and see if it looks like it would fit.
I am interested in what other kits contain if they dont have the pyramid piece. They must have some sort of spacer ?
I could not see any adjustment with the rear shocks as I thought was fitted to the original shocks. These are KYB shocks front and back so may not have the adjustment option.
Yes from memory the pyramid part is about the same lenght as the piece next to the steering knuckle.
Could it be the case the Pyramid piece goes on one side of the car and the piece next to the steering knuckle go on the other side of the car ?
Doesnt the L series need extended brake lines front and/or back. I seem to recall with the MY it did so I thought the L series would also need them.
If anyone has any other questions let me know and I will go back and check things out next week.

in picture 5 on this page you can see the moustache bar or diff hanger as others call it.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2507954/1 ... 5079540005
you will notice as well the offset of the fuel tank.
YES THIS IS A BRUMBY but it looks 99.9% the same under the back of an "L" series.
your rear shocks are non ajustable. unless you reall want an extra inch of lift don't worry about it. if you do get a set of ajustable shocks off a 2WD and change the springs over.
you can extend the brake lines or remove them from the litlle fixture they live in.

The "moustache bar" has nothing to do with drinkin', Texas style haha
Its the nickname given to the bar that runs behind the diff from rail to rail. It looks kinda like a moustache from behind lol. Its what holds the diff in place.
Some kits lower the whole bar, others lower just the diff. Toonga is saying its the 2nd one.
If you have a look through L series lifts you should find it.
Not sure bout the brake lines but you may be right.

Sorry I am not seeing the picture but thats OK.
Is the MY wagon the same in the rear as the Brumby ?
If so I will look at both my L series and MY and compair to get the idea.
If the brake lines need extending I can only say I had to pay well over $100.00 each for the new front brake lines for the MY wagon a while ago so if they are needed things become very costly.
