just thinking in regards to a diy lift kit what would be safer i understand for a 2" its just 50x50 box but what if for instance i want a 6" what would be better to use 150x50x2.5 or 2 75x50x4.0 bolted together ?

Only 2 inch is legal in most states. But dont forget if going if going any size lift , you have to get the right off set on the strut tops. it not just 2 plates and a piece of metal in between.

a couple of people have thought about DIY kits, i was looking at making the ones paul at subarwreck sells. Not worth it, 200 in steel, nearly 200 in bolts and the parts got sold for 700 so yeahs not enought mark up for me to make a dollar.
But the point is its 400$ for a kit and that was just a 2 inch.

the 6 inch kits are welded on instead of bolted.

maybe i should use my brain for once and stick to 2 inch and a set of 14,s like everyone else

If you make a lift kit make it in single pieces, not smaller lift kits bolted together to make larger.

I think someone has bolted two 2 inch kits together before, you'd know them wouldn't you AndyT?

I was going to DIY my lift kit, then I picked up a lift kit for $450, came with a free L series!

Not much mark up (profit) in lift kits.

But with some of our friends on this forum like Bennie there would be a market for oxygen masks.

check out the look of andrew Ts awesome kit and build. Id suggest 4 inches, different but yeah, or the 2 inches.

well the missus has demanded that we buy a house in the next year or two which requires credit rating meaning ill have to get a small loan ( credit rating ) and she also demanded i buy a ute so im putting two and two together haha i reckon a 4 inch would be sweet iv got some 100x50 up at the inlaws vineyard i think... if not the grandfather inlaw will have some at his i can borrow :P

would nylon blocks be safe... not for the struts of course but everywhere else should be fine shouldnt it ?

I'm using nylon in a couple of places, the bread board type of stuff, it came off the runners on a skip bin truck, 2 x 65mm blocks under the front of the trailing arms & solid alloy everywhere else, it seems to be holding up quite well but I'll be ripping them out soon as my wheels are too far back with the 1" extension on the arms.

well iv known it be pretty good stuff i used it once to makes a silencer for my .22 (worked for 2 shots ) so it justifiable that a coke bottle and polestyrene works better but i figure its durable and cheap if you know where to look not to mention it allows me to do a safe one piece 4-6" lift

Yeah, you'd just need to go around and nip things up a couple of times after use to make sure it's not collapsing if using just the nylon, I remember when I ripped the body off my 60 series Landcruiser it just sat on 10 small rubber blocks with a steel tube going through them, the tube may be worth a thought, the whole lot will cost bugger all & I think it would work well.

i was thinking of that... id have to use crush tube anyway unless i went solid alloy

im sure you know but its not the blocks that cost much its the bolts to hold them

yea sorta figured after my experience with an excavator shearing drive wheel bolts.... $200 for a couple of short but super thick and supposedly strong bolts... i was originally thinking a long threaded bar and just make my own out of that

Having ripped apart about 3 Subi's for parts I have a box full of bolts though the longer ones have pretty much all gone, I think I bought about 10 ht bolts all up but 6 of them will be coming out soon ..... possibly all of them as I put 50mm blocks where the ALK would go too, it's amazing how you can swap a lot of the long bolts you take out of one place and replace the shorter ones with them on the Impreza/Liberty.
