Rear discs on a Brumby
Wrecker prices can be expensive but they have overheads as well purchasing the cars from auctions at a fair price can be hard if someone else is bidding too. I found the local Subaru wreckers at Cardiff a bit pricey and he sells ford parts too. most of the smaller wreckers are priced well but having the parts, my local don't have any Subaru's in his yard at all he only buys what he knows will sell quick.
OK what's the deal with welding the diff centres up as well have seen some posts talking about doing this and has got the better of me to ask. i know that if you like to drive on the sides of your tyres on two wheels both being on the same side you weld the diff up
Cheers Alan

No repairs need as such untill I inspectthem but I will skip the discs and depending on price of caliper rebuild kit I may rebuild them. I probably will as that is the kind of person I am.
They will get abrasive blasted and a fresh coat of paint. (cause I can).
they are in good condition

You won those? Nice. I was watching them! You wouldn't be getting my rear discs for less than $500 + postage!!revmax wrote:rear disc brake. Here we come. Got some off ebay today. Venom offerd me some earlier in this thread but I thought the price was more than they were worth but it appears as the his asking price was the going rate, anyway got some coming late this week.
Me too Cam - Sunnie the Brumby would have done well we these on his rear end! Discs are well worth the coin and effort compared to the drums, especially if you haven't just overhauled your drum brakes!Brumby Kid wrote:I was watching those, they started off real cheap, then escalated.
Unfortuneatly it was the wrong time of year for the bank account
Do a search alang, there's plenty of info out there! I think AndrewT did a post about his in one of his build threads (resto's area )revmax wrote:alang please ask your diff welding in another thread.
Enjoy the discs revmax! You'll love them. And I'm sure they'll hold their value!

As well as the standard 4x140 (subaru pattern) so you'll still be able to fit your factory wheels.TOONGA wrote:Did you notice they had been drilled to take the 4x100 wheel studs?
4x100 is pretty common stud pattern for small cars but not to much chop if looking for large diameter rims though, as they tend to have vibration issues.

Is there meant to be a "but" before "tend to have vibration issues" Or am I missing something else here?RSR 555 wrote:4x100 is pretty common stud pattern for small cars.. not to much chop if looking for large diameter rims though.. tend to have vibration issues.

I'm going to say it make sure you use either engine enamel or brake paint:)revmax wrote: They will get abrasive blasted and a fresh coat of paint. (cause I can).
and have fun, the biggest problem I had was getting the backings for the drum brakes off, 20 + years of brake dust and fluid had made a cement that was almost impossible to budge.

I just reshaped mine, but take care not to bend within an inch of the ends with the fitting and do 'em up loosish by hand before any spanners. It wasn't an easy as thing to do, though never lost any sleep over it after the same level of panic you seem to be in. Funny how no one mentions this tricky little procedure. Mine are no longer secured to the arm bracket.
Note how on an L series they have a hole in the end of the swing arm between the two bolts that I think the hose may fit on L. The MY does not have same hole.
