Was it BK asking for a pic to help my suggestion to Sam for his Silverbullet ?

It was out of VL Commode i think, the whole unit was washer bottle one half, radiator reservoir the other - just cut through th plastic division. Later Commodes have similar.
It just sits up there supported with oil wipe rags most times. With the hose to rad neck, I just made it do a Uey, run along the top of the radiator with cable ties, droop down and finally appear at the bottle lid. Other hose of lid is for overflow to outside world.

Combinmed with overflow style CPC cap does an excellent job of keeping radiator brimming

yeah nice mate, I'll have to look at doing the same to Sunnie.

And yes I would agree that the bottle is from a VL or another commodore of similar vintage.

The tube to the radiator must be freaking long!

This is what my bro has in his EJ brumby

here's mine it is from a Suzuki Vitara (from memory some Suzuki anyway)
it even came with a bracket very similar to the washer bottle

If you wanted a pressurised bottle then the Hyundai i30 (diesel) has a small unit with mounting holes.





It also has two small inlet/outlets on the side you can see that can take small hose and block the bigger one. bout $85 new and comes with 1.1 cap.

Ok where does the hose connect to on the radiator? The overflow pipe? And the tank unit itself, ie. top or bottom?

With reflection my post isnt relevant Brumby kid.

Some radiators dont have a radiator cap at all nowadays leaving the pressure in the expasion bottle. this is not an overflow bottle as such. just another option for you but better to stick to the current system.

I think I'll be looking for a zuk bottle now - that's super neat Toonga!

Jonno was saying I should put a bottle in instead of just having the overflow pipe out to nowhere as it is now. Have to agree, all that glycol that's gone into the sea makes me feel a bit guilty

Question though; all of the bottles in the pics look higher than the radiator cap, if you put coolant into the bottle wouldn't the level in the radiator be alot higher? or doesn't it matter.

I am bad.... should have also included a pic of the pick up tube under the cap of the reservoir - it sinks to the depths of the bottle. You need to ensure your rad cap is for recovery. Somehow if water does go into reservoir from rad it will suck back when needed. The theory I learnt was that as things cool down after shut down of engine. Proved that wrong with a small Festi that had issues. All would be full, take it for a drive, lose water somwher somehow and it would replenish from reservoir on the drive !! Defo went against my learned theory !!
So essentially you could hide the reservoir down the back inside the panels and would work so long as no air locks .....

the idea of the reservoir bottle is to capture the fluid as it expands when it heats up, and when it cools down it effectivly sucks the fluid back into the system

that is what I learned too so not expect the Festi to take water in while on the run. I understood 'when it cools' to means as engine coolant temp drops while resting after operation.

Fitting a reservoir is a good move - makes it almost maintenace free and I know to see fluid level OK in bottle, radiator is always chockers to the neck whjere, incidentally BK this is where the reservoir hose starts out from.

Sam, you could start to make up for your glycol in the sea trick by resuing an old plastic bottle from the sea and make that into a recovery bottle , just ensure supply/pick up goes to near the bottom of fluid. That simple. It defo was VL bottle, bit thin on the ground now. Scored another from a VS, yet another from an L Series and its bracket for another Brumby

i think iv still got my overflow from the L i just wrecked ill go have a look

just figured id throw that snippet of informaton up as it seemed everyone was leaning towards it as a leak capture contaniner

I understand a bit better now, I didn't realize overflow bottles had a hose going to the bottom of the bottle from the lid. Makes more sense now
