Brumby Canopy Help
Hey, Im New Here and this is my first thread so here i go!
By the way Im in S.A. and would like to go on 4WD trips with other members!
I have recently bought a 1991 subaru brumby and am planning to buy a canopy. Thats all good, paul at subareck can get me one.
My problem is that the only way to secure it on to the car is to bolt into the chrome trim on the top of the tray,:( which i do not want to do:mad:
So my question is does anyone know of a way to secure a canopy without bolting, or wrecking the tray?

I used fencing wire and tied it down to the tie down hoops inside and crimped it. Bodgy but worked. You almost need to make your own brackets secured inside edge with say studs welded, facing up to drop and secure canopy to. That drill through the chrome trim is bloody rude - made to a price though !

Thanks Steptoe,
Would you at all be able to upload some pictures / drawings of those ideas.
That would be great thanks.
By the way, any ideas must not be permanant, and must make as little damage to the car as possible.
Thanks

Canopy is now off , Was simply sat in place, loops of fence wire threaded through their triple grip? clamping do dad and squished up tight from fitting holes of can o pee to the spot welded tie downs of all four corners. My advice would be to also add some protective tape or film to roof top where rubber seals against it.

clamps mate.
the canopies we fit to 4x4s' at work all have a g type clamp that clamps the top of canopy lip, and down to the under lip of the car.
easy and simple, but "can" move if not payed attention to!

ebay has good pics of nutserts or rivnuts. Imagine drill a hole, pop in a rivet, squeeze handle and done rivet is in. Now, you have used a rivnut/nutsert instead and have a threaded insert riveted to the sheet metal. I think M6 is about biggest you can get easily.
A lot of ebay stuff is IN USA and is not metric

Yeah i checked, no lip. Bennie's idea of the turn buckle and the tie down loops sounds good. My question now is, would the nutsert go into the wall of the tray verticaly so that it is horizontal? or would you make a plate that comes off the side of the tray horizontally, so that the nutsert is vertical?
