Where can i get my clutch made??

Hi guys,

So its definite, Scott form AutoClutch has stopped making clutches. The last lucky one was Dann, u bastard:). I finally got hold of him and i'll be picking up my used clutch kit that i left with him 4-5 weeks ago with him:(

He says he won't be doing it any more and didn't touch mine...

Would anyone know where members can get something made up in WA? I guess this would be helpful for other members that are building there EJ22 L series with EA gearboxes.

For me, Looks like i'll be going with off the shelf clutch, purely like most of you said in my other thread that i'll now have a EJ engine and a EJ gearbox and the off the shelf clutches should cope fine.

Now should i get std or HD clutch? I'd rather replace a clutch than a gearbox that Paul has built for me for big $$$$ lol:p
But, i don't want to have to replace them every 3months:(

Thx

Guyph,

I think you'll find the stock EJ clutch more than sufficient! If you're burning them out in 3 months you need to learn how to drive! My now dead clutch was 18 months old and still had plenty of meat on it - just a shame about the guts giving out which could have happened to any disc I guess.

And like you've said - I'd rather replace clutches more often than be pulling the gearbox apart again!

Cheers

Im using a NA clutch and pressure plate to join my EJ20T to my DR 5sp Liberty gearbox. I just got a step machined in the flywheel to increase the clamping pressure

thats another way i guess, How deep was the step? and how long have you used it in the car?

I cant remember the exact size, but clutch shop guy reckoned he knew what he was doing, was only a few mm though.

I have not yet driven the car, this is a long term build.

No wonder you keep saying the Clutch industries HD clutch smells and slips.. you can't drive!!!

If we can't find anyone then thats what Im going with. I have a HD pressure plate in my daily L wagon and thats done 90 000kms (not easy going kms either ;) )over 3 years in two cars and its still going strong.

Thank christ I got mine off him when I did and only a couple of weeks before that I had another one of his h/d clutches put in to the Liberty after 50,000K's of thrashing the old one, be interesting to see what happens if there is any warranty work needed by any of the performance shops which pretty much used him exclusively, Guy I'm 99% sure there is another clutch builder in Perth.

Really he told me he doubt i'd get someone else to build one for me. I've heard of "the clutch factory" but maybe they are closed.

I don't know what happened to him and why he stopped?

Guyph, I seriously reckon you'll be throwing money into the wind if you got a pressure plate built for your clutch. An Excedy HD or something of the like will be more than overkill - you're running a stock EJ25 in a lighter car so the stock clutch will be more than up to the task.

Just don't go riding it all the time (especially smoking it offroad!) and you should be sweet!

Cheers

Jim Berry is the one to speak to , he did my Skylines clutch and I'm very happy with it .
Just have some time available if you ring him and tell him honestly what you're trying to do with your clutch . He will speak lots but sometimes it takes people a while to get the truth out .
He caters to a lot of people with specific clutch needs and customisation is second nature to him .
He'll very likely tell you most off the shelf clutches are not very precisely made things and that low pricing is the usual priority .
He has clutch dynos that measure clamping loads but more importantly dynamic grip and slip .

When you want a clutch thats had real hands on and tested properly call Jim Berry .

Yeah..., I think i'll just go with a kit Local so at least if it fails due to some ken block style driving i can try and claim on warranty:twisted: Lol

Thx Dave, it would be good to know for all those doing ej/ea builds:)

Why would a brand new clutch kit be exchange? Mine wasn't

I got a clutch kit (no flywheel) from this guy it was posted to T'subaru then it came to me in a pre-paid post pack. admittedly it was sent to Germany (USPS goofed) first but all up it cost less than 250 Australian dollars.

and guy getting warranty on a clutch is like finding a virgin on Rotto on New Years Eve
