Hi,

I have recently bought a walbro fuel pump for my Ej25 L series. It was more of an impulse buy Lol. Anyway, I have two main questions.

If its an in tank one, would i be able to use it for external purposes?

After reading on forums i realised that China made some very very similar copies of them that were hard to detect. Is mine a china copy? how can i tell?

As you can see its got that in tank filter thing:(
I'm asking as i rather loose a few $$ than lean out the motor, should the pump fail at any point.
Lol.

Thx

Yeah I'm not sure about that in-tank filter! Usually you have a little cone like filter that fits in side the intake end of the pump.

By looking at that it is an external pump - the instructions should have some better details of where it fits but my best is an external pump, having wiring that you need to wire in is a give a-way to me. If it's an in tank pump that's just plain dangerous!

Cheers

looking at your pic i would say it is a in tank pump. the way the instructions show to mount it.
im unsure about external mounting.... how ever saying that me and my mates rigged up a in'tank pump/tub of fuel and a mate holding the pump to start a sr20det on the floor. so it will work :) not sure if it will cause a problem, but it will work

Its an intank pump. cannot be used for external.....at all... but u should sell it on a Liberty or Impreza site to get some quick sale action :D

Get an external walbro. my outright favourite for size, weight and noise and they net plenty of pressure and flow.

Cheers mate

Yep, like H-Top has mentioned, it's an internal pump and due to the relief valve on them, it can NOT be used externally. I would chuck it up on P-WRX and buy an external one :)

lol @ impulse buy. I did the same thing like 8 years ago.
Then I realised it was a silly idea anyway because even an EJ20 turbo engine runs fine from a totally stock standard touring wagon pump.

If you are still intent on upgrading the standard pump, get a VL turbo (bosche) external pump, but it's completely unnecessary unless there is something wrong with the standard one in your car.

absolutely.

the above mentioned pump is proabably the best for your application. I ran one on mt ej22s and then on my ej20g.

Yep.. go the Bosch 0 580 254 044 pump as it can handle a 6.6ltr holden without any trouble and you should be able to buy them for around the $200 mark.
