Advice please ?

Hi Scooby folks,
Advice please.....
I have just nabbed for 50 quid a pair of excellent front Fozzy seats for my friend to go in his MVBRUMBYBRAT

I have agreed to do the mounting conversion for him - like I have got in Scooby.

Question. These seats have the airbags in the sides. I am going to start drilling grinding and welding to the runners. Is any of the above likley to set off the airbags ?? Of course I am not 'live-ing' the wires up just earthing the seat chassis so I can weld the new brackets to the runners.

They also have heater elements in them too - so the new owner may have the first Brumby with heated front seats in !!:mrgreen:

IMO it should be OK - as I am not doing any more than if the seats were fixed in a car that I could be welding on (battery disconnected of course)

Can anyone confirm this please.

- I am looking at some Alloy wheels for a second Brumby project.......not sure if I should ask opinions on here about them lol ! nah you lot have good banter - and NO they will not be painted pink !!!
Anyone seen the Citroen Saxo VTR Alloys ?? will they fit or has anyone done this if so how ? Adaptor plate. - They are neat looking wheels and there are Huggings of them here to buy - I think they would look great ! See attached image. PCD i am advised is 108 mm : (

Have no idea, but willing to learn. When you start welding, please have someone with video skills record the event for us and/or youtube upload

Sounds like a rectum tightening project for sure
Not sure I would recommend welding around airbags but hey I'm no mechanic or electrician but please check the batteries in the camera or better still have two cameras running

Giles having seen the way the young guys at the wreckers handle the centres out of steering wheels, Im pretty sure it would be safe to work on them. if you are worried remove the runners and work on them off the seats.

I like the rims either adaptors or re drilling the hubs on the car. or look around for some older pug alloys like the ones Paul has on his L wagon. this page has some great examples of the wheels that were once available in the 140 x 4 pattern http://www.indysworld.com/80s/general/w ... heels.html

and I suggest 3 cameras one set at a distance, one close up and one set for high speed to get frame by frame images just like mythbusters

You could set them up first on the garage floor and "Deploy" them buy setting up the electrical circuit. That way you know they cant go any further when you start welding.

if he deploys the side airbags in the seat, it will destroy the seats well the side of the seat anyway.

NFI of getting the airbag out of the seat either.

Hummm so no one yet knows ? Please keep the comments / advice flowing, love some of the 'comments' - sarkey lot you are hehehe !

I am off to Curry's (large UK chain sells anything electrical tv camera etc) today to buy the video kit - then off the the undertakers to pencil in a date if it all goes belly up !:mrgreen:
I will write in my will that who ever gets scooby has to post up the clip of my final few seconds on this rock we call Earth !
Anyway........
I dont think that the part of the runners I need to weld to are actually removable.
What I did with mine was remove all traces of fixings back to the sliders.
Then weld on a combo of height and width adjustment blocks and the original brumby seat fixings (just the critical end parts) I had removed from the knackered old brumby seats. The bit I welded to was as I remember part of the main frame of the seat chassis.

Jules - you make a good comment re the way wreckers handle the stuff with bags in. Made me think -
I have just found an 'immaculate' fuel tank thats come off a truck I have already had parts from (£50 bargain) - the wreckers there are not your usual type - so I will ask their opinion too - I will let the post know their advice too.

So you like the Citro wheels then eh? Next I have to break the news to you all of what colours are on the short list to repaint the project truck - one you will like one which well you may not (no Jonno its not pink or purple or any kind of bling !!)
Its a very current and at the same time 'retro' colour and one which was not standard to the Brumby.
Anything but the Beige that it currently is !:mrgreen:

so Its either World Rally Blue - yes been done many times before.

. Yellow....... yes Yellow! NOT GOLDEN YELLOW PLANT COLOUR - Subaru had a straight yellow colour on the Imps here they looked good cause they were different. Currently Yellow is a Buzz colour in the UK with some nice shades of it about so lots to chose from. I recon a brumby would look cool with the off set of Black trims chrome strips and silver alloys.
What do you guys think ?

Oh yeah the seats I actually raised mine in the Brumby by removing the runners and bolting a section of rhs to the seat frame with the runners attached to that then bolted the lot back in.
I did the same on another vehicle but fabricated a tapered subframe instead of the rhs because the seat was to high at the front.
Oh by the way I also put compression tubes in the rhs and sub frame for the bolt to stop crush.

Thanks Mark ! These guys could be just what I may need ! Had a look at what they do - need to grab me a wheel next to see it in the flesh and see how it shapes up !

lol you could call it bumble bee. Mark that page is great, damn unfair that those adaptors are illegal here. (I won't tell) I wonder how hard it would be to find rims with an offset that would hide the 1.9 inch adaptor

Believe it or not but nearly drooled over a few very tidy Brumbys in that beige. Fresh paint, two pack shine, tidy as and witha tarp same colour tailor made look so schmick
