Wrx Brumby - Rear handbrake & some Qn's..

Hi I don't normally post but I have been on this forum for a while now.

Basically I had a standard brumby for about a year and was preparing for the typical ej22 swap. Then I bought D3V1L (Dave's) brumby with an ej20t.
-->This is the car showthread.php?t=17015&highlight=d3v1l
He wasn't wrong when he said there was still a lot to be done..some things a little concerning (pieces of wood, pins missing loose bolts etc) haha but working my way through it ;)

Currently the car is running a GC8 gearbox and rear diff.

The front end seems to have parts swapped from a wrx. There are 4pots with ventilated disks on the front (hence 5 stud rims).
The issue for me is that there is no handbrake. The car is running standard brumby drum brakes on the back that has been re-drilled to 5 stud.

I looked into adapting wrx rear brakes with the inner handbrake drums but that quickly faded away as I had a look at how different the set up was.
I understand many people upgrade to single pot rear brakes from an old turbo car like a vortex..

Given anyone's previous experience, what would be the best way to go?

I am heading towards single pot rear brakes with a hydraulic handbrake maybe.

Any questions or comments?

Cheers, Marcus

the simplest way would be to buy the crossbred conversion but only the back half of a kit. You would still need to source the discs, calipers and a handbrake assembly as well, which shouldn't be too difficult.

Marcus,

If this is street registered, I'd stay away from a hydraulic handbrake.

Thanks TOONGA,

I will have to send them an email. I checked it out and not entirely sure what the kit would include. Would that mean I could bolt on wrx rear brakes?
Or would it still be using the brumby axle splines & run vortex disks?

The pictures aren't too clear on the site.

Cheers,

Marcus

Hey Marcus,

The easiest way to put it is, Crossbred Performance supply what is needed to adapt the 5 stud set up to a 4 stud set up. So if you look at a liberty or a wrx . Then look at your brumby and see the differences , Crossbred supply the adaptor pieces to fit the things ( brakes and stud set up ) to the older models.

Is this clear enough? This is the crossbred kit for the rear only.

From how I see the crossbred gear is that they supply the components required to be made or adapted to fit the five stud brakes that you source yourself to suit your application -so will suit many who have the bits from their own area or collection. From memory if you doin' a Brumby or MY rather than an L series you need Imprezza struts for the front. In your case for the rears you fit his splined hub to the Brumby rear spline driveshaft after the backing plates. Is the handbrake of Imprezas inner drum of the disc? Or MY and L style cable to rear caliper?

Speaking of rear handbrakes, im about to fit my crossbred rear handbrake, but because i bought the kit 2nd hand, i didnt get all the paperwork and thus i dont really know what to do with the Magna handbrake (well i have a rough idea what to do, but id rather get it right the 1st time)

Is there a PDF version i can download?

Thanks for the help every one & that picture from point is a lot clearer.
Seems the key component in the package is the 5 stud adapter with the brumby splines on the inside.

Point would you happen to know what the going rate is for a rear conversion kit?

& yes steptoe the handbrake is on the inner drum of the disk from what I have seen off a stock 2000 wrx.

I payed $900 + $25 post. I must say, the machined hub and brake adapter (the gold bits) are beautifully made....
