AU hi/lo gear company?

Post by BeefaRu » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:01 am

I heard there was an AU company making custom hi/lo gears for subarus.

There's been interest in the US for better ratio hi/lo gears than what came on the original hi/lo transmissions from 1986 to 1994 (known here as the "EA82" GL and Loyale body styles).

If this company does exist, I'd like to find out who they are and get some pricing.

Thanks!

Eric

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

I do know of someone that was making some for testing to see how thay would stand up to off road use, thay had some problems of not a lot of room in the gearbox and that ment the new gear had to be made to thin and did not larst long.

Larst i heard was thay were going to try again but dont know if thay did.

If you wont you could get in touch with a guy by the name of John Petersen at [email protected] or call him at work on 0412 355 555.

He mite be able to tell you what has happend since the testing and if there still going ahead with it.

Rik.

ALBINS make a hi/low gear set, sold by scorpion.

But it is no lower than the standard l series and is ment as an upgrade to late forestrers that have a usless low gear.

I do believe that it is a little stronger than the standard l series low range making it a better option behind ej motors if you can justify the price?

Im pretty sure the scorpion gear set is the real low ratio set 1:49:1 (is there a lower ratio?) as opposed to the 1:19:1 set that alot of boxes end up with

here is the scorpion page http://scorpionsubaru.com/low.htm

ok the albins gear set is 1.58 : 1 according to their documentation

Just go the L series low range, its the same thing.

Just don't flog it on the black top and you'll be right. I've not had any issues with the EJ behind the L series gearbox with the 1.59:1 low ratio - and its copped a bit of a beating offroad, I've forgotten to think about it while I'm out there :???:

Indeed

Know a Lib that had no option other than 500km of blacktop on Easter Monday towing a trailer all in low range.

A LOT of fuel was used.

Oh, was a H6 conversion to boot. HR repaired, LR was fine
