Gday, I have an EJ20 out of a 2004 liberty GT minus intake, harness, computer etc. I'm thinking twin turbo, suck through twin carbs? Any ideas?

I thought same idea but with twin turbo, twin webbers ,blow thru, would look good if you could work out a neat linkage setup, another possablity twin throttle bodys and gas.If you do the twin carby setup please show your progress would like to see that done

Was just thinking suck through so you dont have to boost reference them. How hard is it to boost reference webers?

Or maybe just put each carbies in a box?

From what i have been told/read the webber from a 4cyl cortina will do the trick,it will hold pressure and not blow out any fuel, but double check with a carbie specilist (maybe someone on here can confirm if this is true)

Twin turbos and twin carbs is just asking for trouble.
I think finding a loom and ecu would be far easier than trying to set up a carby and a mechanical/vacuum distributor (that fits the EJ) to work with a turbo.
You dont necessarily need a 04 loom and ECU

There are also a few carby/turbo cars out there from factory,1 is the kb turbo laser,i modded 1 of these carbies to an ea81 with a turbo/suck thru,,went very well but i wouldnt recommend it on an ej20 as they are a bit small, but if you do some homework you may find something else simalar

The other problem was that it has variable valve timing? Need harness, computer, intake manifold etc etc its pretty much a long block

Find a turbo engine with a blown HG or spun or noisy big end bearing, use parts from that
Intake manifolds arent all that hard to come by.
I just think you are gonna have a lot of trouble finding a distributor to work with a turbo, its hard enough finding on to work on a NA EJ20

This engine is the result of a big end knock. I replaced the engine for a customer and thinking of pulling this one apart and doing something with it

ok it is a big job but not impossible there are several dizzys that will fit the mark 3 escort (from England) is the closest fit and only needs a small amount of modfication, unless you can find a Subaru one (rare but they do exist)
to get around the vvt remove the heads sell them on Ebay and find a set of ej22 single cam heads with a keyway for the dizzy in the drivers side head
then find your webers and a turbo to suit (after market computer for turbo as well)
it is possible Im doing it but not using a turbo

What manufacturer makes the Subaru EJ dizzy? Nippondenso, Hitachi
Seems odd for them to have a dizzy common with a Ford, would have expected a Nissan one to fit.

EJ18 SPFI JDM and USDM had a Dizzy on them but didn't have vacuum advance on them
As Julian (aka Toonga) is finding out due to converting his Brumby (aka PJ) to Carby and Dizzy setup, that there is plenty of guys in the aircraft world that are using MkIII Escort dizzies. He has posted some pictures on this site and more to follow but like Julian has mentioned, the EJ20 Quad cam would need to be converted to SOHC heads

I would suggest looking at a very low cost ECU system like Microtech.

They're a mitsubishi manufactured dizzy, they are a common drive style, a lot of bosch dizzy's use the same. Also some honda's are configured in the same way, but most of these have no advance or retard as they are ecu controlled.
And as i found out the hard way not all sohc ej's have the necessary interface in the camshaft to drive a dizzy...

So is it just a slot in the end of the cam shaft that a "key" on the end of the dizzy shaft slots into?

Effectively yes, but it is off centre, i'll probably make a little adaptor with a couple of roll pins to pick up the two holes int he end of this camshaft, gives me a bit more choice for dizzy's maybe.
