speedo cable - L series

just thought i'd share a little thing i found this arvo.
i've recently lifted my car a bit more and naturally the speedo cable didnt fit. i read that the auto cable in the L is longer than the manual. this was not the case with my 87 rx manual and an 89 auto. they were exactly the same length
BUT
the 89 auto cable is in 2 pieces. i disconnected the shorter piece that connects to the gearbox and then essentially made the original manual cable fit to the extention. this was done by pulling off the end bit on the auto connection and putting it on the manual cable. i then filed the end of the manual cable to that it fit to the extension. then you have to cut off about 5mm of the plastic screw in thing that connects it to the gearbox and it's done.
it extends the cable by about 3-4" and that's the perfect length.
when i take the engine out again, i'll take pics of the things i changed to help explain, but it was relatively easy.
