EJ 2.2 to EJ 2.5 Conversion

Post by Ralphie » Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:13 pm

I have a lifted 92 Liberty AWD and recently the timing belt cog on the crankshaft slipped and the keyway is ruined requiring a rebuild to replace the crank. Looking on eBay I saw an ad by a wrecker in Adelaide advertising a low km EJ 2.5 which would make a good upgrade for an older subaru. So I bought the engine, gearbox, wiring loom and computer. Spending a few hours yesterday trying to figure out the wiring loom and the multitude of connectors was a complete jig saw.
Has anyone successfully done this conversion or can someone offer me advice on installing the new loom and what needs to be wired in and what can be thrown away.
Any advice would be greatfully received.
Thanks
Ralphie

Not much help but when I converted I sold my 2.2 liberty and bought a 2.5 outback, saved my time for another conversion, But depending on the year of the new engine you may be able to just use the harness off the 2.2 then mix and match injectors and sensors to make it all fit otherwise go to an auto electrician with it all in and offer them cash on a weekend!
87 targa brumby (Neglected),
92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),
97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),
05 outback safety (Too cheap to pass up),
90 model liberty (was to be scrapped instead sold to workmate)
+ others.

talk to Al at amauto.com.au

he has done this conversion. I would recommend posting him your looms and getting him to splice them together for you. Then its just a plug in / bolt up job

From what I've read, and it goes along the lines of what tex has said: The EJ22 computer and loom will run the EJ25 without any worries. The thing to do is swap the intake manifolds so that the EJ22 inlet manifold is on the EJ25 block. Then swap the injectors to that of the EJ25's.

After that it should run without a problem on the EJ22 ECU and loom - again, from what I've read ;) I believe there's a lot of info about this on the USMB.

Cheers
