G'day all. I wish to learn from the pool of infinite knowledge of the forum once again!

Is it possible to turbo an EA82 MPFI without sending the stock computer nuts?

I wash thinking small turbo, 5 - 7 psi, rb 30 injectors.

All input in good!

Yes it happens quite often, with no sucess.....on the other hand , if you install forged pistons and run 140 avgas....it is fine..cheers

Yes and No

Yes it can be done

You need to either replace the turbo side head with a turbo head so you can get the oil and water feed and return lines, or drill and tap the holes yourself.
Turbo EA82 injectors should be enough for your needs.
Get your heads and block surface decked and fit copper headgaskets
Get one of XtremeRX's turbo manifolds to help those exhaust gasses moving
At the very least, Id suggest using the ecu from a 88-94 vortex turbo so you can gain the benefits of boost enrichment and the knock sensor. But if your gonna do it propperly, get a full standalone ecu

I used a NA mpfi ecu for a little while on my turbo until i got a new turbo ecu, but i wound the timing back to be safe, and it didnt make much power

By turboing a MPFI engine, you will gain the low end torque that the factory EA82T doesnt have, but at a trade off for reliability.

If this is for your daily driver, id suggest upgrading to an EJ20 turbo, or a factory built EA82T. If its your project car, and your willing to experiment, im more than happy to help you modify your MPFI wiring loom to work with a turbo motor.

Thanx for the input guys,

Would you add any sensors to supplement the stock ones if using a standalone ecu to take full advantage? It seems that an ej conversion might be less trouble lol.

To what lengths has the EA Turbo been pushed before?

QikRX pushed his to 260hp, but all up, i think it cost him over $10,000

EJ20T is your best option, and you wont regret it later when you wish you had have put the EJ20T in

The rally fraternity tells me that the best local ones in legal homologated trim made about 190 crank Hp .

Have to agree with others , factory EA82 header/turbo etc often ends up in tears . I won't say that it can't be done but I wouldn't use the factory header and dinky turbocharger .
It's also probably going beyond what these early computers can live with so hard to guarantee a good result .
