G'day,

I've had loads of trouble with old fuel tanks with dirt and rust,
so i've been wondering;

has anyone had a poly fuel tank made, like moulded from the same
shape as the original tank.

with the same poly used on modern jerry cans?

what compliance issues are there?

Cheers,
H-top

Custom made plastic fuel tank? Never heard of that. You should be able to get an alloy tank knocked up for under a grand.

i was thinking of some type of alloy but
the vortex tank is really oddly shape
and im a big fan plastic for some uses.

I've worked with a type of plastic
that will close and for a seal around
a hole the size of a 20 cent piece.

but i'm really keen on a poly tank.

you can make it a bit thicker than
a normal tank and can drill in
fittings for pumps and lines etc

Dont know about Soobs but I grabbed a RH tank for the mini(boy it was hard to drill a hole for the filler neck in the RH side) and that put my mini fuel capacity to a whopping 13 gallons - considering it was originally 5 gallons!!

Give this guy a try - he only does minis I think but may know of someone using the same materials for other makes..

definately out of my price range. 4 grand to make a mould, maybe a custom metal one would be better lol.

I knew it would hurt - Mr Gulson is a mini guru hence the prices are better as he has the moulds. Saved me around $400 on a genuine steel RH tank(cooper S tax on it dont you know...!!!)

Was worth a try - you can try and get a generic marine one to suit - try a boat shop that specialises in inboard type boats - they usually have fuel cells of various sizes.

Good luck

I work with poly, but not moulding it. We make tanks out of sheet, but I'm pretty sure they'd end up being out of your price range as well
