Forestor/Impreza Chasis rails + bullbar

Gents, im having trouble sourcing a decent bull/roo bar for my '98 impreza hatch. There is a custom unit made by Irvin over here. They're asking $1920 fitted to my car. I thought that was a bit steep for a vehicle that cost me $4k to start with. :???:

I have had a look at EBAY and scoured various other second hand sources (QUOKKA etc). But decent frontal protection for a impreza is hard to find.

My question is: would a bullbar made for a forestor suit my application? Am I correct in assuming the chasis rails are similar enough in design (MY98-99) that I could pick up a more availible forestor bullbar and "fit" it to my impreza?

open to suggestions / comments

doubt anyone has done it. good idea though

Those Irvin bars are way too pretty for my liking.

I would be finding a forester with a bar on it and measuring things up. another option would be talking to bullbar shops about a custom job?

Chrus... I think that a Forester Bullbar is going to be a lot easier to find and with the Impreza and forester using the same floor plan, the only difference is going to be the the neatness of the fitting i.e. possible gaps around the headlight area and front guards which more than likely can be filled using alloy flat bar :)

I'd jump on the Forester Forum (http://www.gtrydaz.com) and see if any one has got one that you can measure up or look around in the papers for some car yards who are selling one.

I'm thinking that you best be looking for one of the 97 to 2000 models, after that the model took a serious upgrade.

Best of luck Chrus :P
