VF 33 turbo replacement for MY02 B4

Hey Pep's

After a little advise, had a little issue recently where I blew the primary VF 33 turbo on my B4 :( . As it turns out these are a little hard to come by these days and as such asking $$ are quite large.

Question is, can anyone recommend a replacement turbo that would mount with limited alterations? I've been looking at a VF 35 as my B4 is auto and all comments I've seen seem to praise this turbo in similar applications.

Any advice or pointing in the right direction would be awesome.

Cheers,

A VF35 would not be any good. They are a turbo from a WRX that uses a single turbo. The inlet is too large as is the outlet. It also points in the wrong direction. They are designed for boost in a much different rev range, which is much more like your secondary turbo. It would play havoc with your boost control and sequential set up even if you could get it mounted and plumbed in.

If you can't find one(VF33) in Aus for the right price you can look here.

You could try JKZ25 on this site. He may have one there or know where to find one.

Cool's i'll look into Outback.

Just been reading up on the JDM B4 running VF26/27. Lot of people recommending replacing the 33 with the 26, takes a little longer to spool but gets rid of that annoying void at about 4,500rmp, and basically just a bolt on

Any one tried this or know of it being done??

thought about doing a single turbo conversion?

the pros of a single turbo totally outweigh the pros of a twin turbo setup.

you also eliminate the dreaded VOD.

If you fit one of the factory twin scroll header/turbo systems it fixes ALL the problems of singles or sequential twin turbos . It also fixes up the cheap nasty single crossover pipe header system monstrosity found on most EJ turbo engines .

People have to get their heads around the fact that two turbos does not necessarily mean twice as much squirt as one . Virtually every manufacturer "got over" the twin sequential turbo systems because they are an overly complex and eventually failure prone system . It was a flawed system pushed by marketing idiots .

The single twin scroll turbo is what all single turbo cars SHOULD have .
Mitsubishi have used them for ages and some of the Subies now have them as well .

That's fair enough to say but it is not as simple as that for a lot of people. If you have a perfectly working twin turbo that just needs a turbo then fixing it is obviously the best option.

To go to a single turbo on a twin turbo is a much bigger job than a lot of people think. To do so involves new exhaust, inlet, and blocking of oil and water ports, new intake and then you have issues with factory ecu wanting to run a sequential box that no longer remains. Why even suggest it?

No one said that it is. The sequential system on a Liberty is designed for response through out the rev range.

Twin turbo set ups like those on GTR skylines definitely give twice the squirt.

This would be why Subaru dropped it like a school bag after using briefly on the WRX then is it?
