Welding lift kits to vehicle

In another thread Senior member Matt states:

"1 really good idea i read here is to weld the lift kit in thus stoping snapping bolts and threading captive nuts. It would pay to do this before you paint it but. Especially if the welder is free to use."

Its got me thinking. Having just installed a 3 inch lift to a brumby and now finally on the home straight to completing what has turned into a bottom-up re-build, I'm now thinking that maybe I should take it all apart again to weld the lift kit in. What is other people's experience? My intended use is for blatting along forest tracks/farm tracks/beach, not some kind of pseudo-challenge truck effort. Does the increased effort in terms of time and money warrant the increase in structural rigidity or am I worrying about nothing?

Cheers,

John

If you were seam-welding the body and knew you would never want to change the lift kit then I'd say you may as well weld the lift blocks in. Otherwise don't other.
What I've done at different times is to extend some of the componants to save using a block.

I would say dont bother mate, I used to have a Brumby that had a 4" lift and it was all bolt in and it did all that you wont to do with yours and more.

If you realy wont to do this all i would do is weld a gussit from the front rail to the fire wall were the sport welds are that the lift block bolts to, as i have seen the sport welds undo at times, BUT thats not so much on Bumbrys but more on the L" wagons.

Thanks guys, I'll leave it as it is and concentrate on trying to figure out how everything goes back together.
