Is anyone running air cond on there EJ conversions and if so what combination of parts did you use[ eg; Brumby evaporator and condensor with WRX compressor and receiver dryer and custom hoses ] and how successful was it?

it can be done but its expensive to get the fittings custom made to suit. Thats why ive never tried.

But yeh its VERY do-able

We use the EJ compressor lines mated to the original cars lines. Basically you cut and join the lines to and from the compressor. It works a treat and Use a bloke in Morayfield, cost is $200 ish including the regas. Well worth it.

hmm maybe i should look at doing it, $200ish aint too bad.
i daresay the ej22 will be able to handle the extra loss of power, not like an ea motor which bloody stalls somtimes from the drop in revs.

Yeah but most likely your Microtech was never really setup with a proper idle-up to compensate. Definitely agreed it would not suck driving an EJ with the aircon on, probably barely feel it :)

yeah im pretty sure his EJ turbo wont even feel it ;)

cant see why you would need to replace the Condenser, Receiver/dryer or wteva else with EJ stuff.
should all work its just a different compressor running it.

altho id much prefer to hook mine up for use on tyres or the likes :)

Or his mobile number 0410559243. The EJ compressor is a way more efficient compressor than the old dinosaur found on EA engines. The $200 is an about price as i cannot really remember the price of the last one, he is reasonable and knows what we want so i just hand over cash when he has finished.

I use Impreza compressors on EJ conversions because a) they are common as dirt and b) they have the two service ports ont he pipes directly at the compressor which a Lib compressor doesn't.
On a recent brumby I did we used the impreza compressor and both hoses. Some impreza hoses(there are a few different sizes through the years) will screw directly to the evap outlet at the firewall so nothing is needed there. The one we used was different so we just cut the alloy ends off the brumby evaporator and condensor hose pipes and welded them to the impreza alloy hose pipes. Easy and cheap. Do all the cutting and setup yourself and it's a $30 welding job at most.

Sorry for the hijack,

Brett the air-con gear in the red brumby looks pretty complete apart from a few hoses and some gas, Do you remember if it just needs that done to get it working ? Keen to get it cooling before summer.

Good news, the hoses running from my EJ AC just have tape on the end after i was told i would have to convert to a different type of gas and it would be costly. Could there be damage to an AC unit that has been left driven by the engine but with no hoses actually connected?

Hijacks all Round....

WHat IS required to install AC into a 90 Brumby, which did not have AC in it before?

I am about to do the EJ25 conversion, but it has no compressor on it.

I too will be looking into this soon

You will need an evaporator (thing under the dash) and a condensor (thing infront of radiator)the hoses and a recieved drier. You will also need to add switching which is pretty easy to instal to a button on the dash.

This compressor info is gold I was going to use a ea one and make up a mount because I thought it would be too difficult to use an EJ one!
I don't suppose anyone wants to share the secrets of power steering as well can you do a similar thing with it onto a brumby rack?

There's a few ways to do PS lines. Low pressure is a no brainer, just get some 3/8 trans cooler hose and join the rack to the pump.
For hi pressure you can get a hose made by enzed/pirtek(easiest) or get the EJ steel pipes adapted to the EA flex line at the back of the head.(More fiddling but cheaper if you can braze). You can screw the fitting out of the back of the EA pump and drill the inside of the opposite end to where the hose screws on. Then slip this onto the EJ pipe end and braze it on.

There is a lot of ways to do it. You can even use a Liberty rack if you want.
