MY standard dash to "Sports" dash question

Hey all,
I'm wanting to change the dash in the brumby to that of the sports dash found in the coupes and some wagons. I've got hold of a digi dash and associated wiring.
Now, the question is: Do i need the wiring from the sports dash to make it all work or can I just use the digi dash wiring?
All comments appreciated.
Cheers

Gees, you ARE brave. I thought of the sexy gauges and look of my MY84 FWD sedan non digital (is this what you call sports dash?) into a Brumby. It took a dodgy oil pressure gauge and the difference in wiring looms to change my thoughts...very quickly

Its been too long but I think there is a fair bit of difference between the digi dash looms and the sports looms. Pretty sure the actual dash 'pad'/board whatever is the same though. So no issues there.
If the dash wiring is 83+ and the car is 83+ then there shouldn't be an issue. Have done three that have plugged in and worked straight off(few a/c mods on one...)
Putting an 82 dash into my 83 wagon was a pita, wipers didn't autopark, and heaps of other little issues. Enough to make a qualified auto lekky cringe.
But the green backlighting and 4wd light were worth it!

Yes, the "sports dash" i refer to is the MY84 FWD non digital dash. I have the entire wiring loom except everything from the fuel pump back - this is where I cut the wiring.
I'm not sure what year the car was, I think it may have been a 1984 model. I'm going to put all the wiring together and hook up a battery, the electronic dizzy and some grounded spark leads. Somehow i'll run an electric motor to spin the dizzy to see if the sports dash works with the tacho and to make sure other lighting works.
Doing this should prove that the wiring from the digi dash loom will work with the analoge sports dash. Once this is sorted the car will have some "extensive" work done in a few days - new dash, air con and if I have time powersteering, the PS can be put in later as it is independant of everything else.
Thanks for your input. Interesting about the wiring for the pre 83 models being different between the two dash clusters. 2couped up reckons it should be a "plug in a play" situation. I'll make sure I get an 84 dash just to be sure.
It'll probabily be two or three weeks before I can do all the work of fitting it in.
Cheers

I kept the light bits that illuminate the wiper and light switch signs they 'omitted' from the Brumby ~ the intention is to fit them one day

Coupe/GLF5 looms are totally different to the Digi looms. Just change the loom, dont waste your time. The 82 had the headlight relay under the bonnet behind the fusable links. The later ones were the round cans near the fuse box under the dash. There are also several other different wires as well. Just get the correct dash loom and all will work. Dont forget to put on the intermittent wipers as well.
Didnt think anyone was doing these conversions anymore. Have had so many bits over the years and gave up saving the old stuff. Count so far this month, 23 MYs and 17 Ls to Simsmetal and still going. Better to shut your eyes and get rid or it. Noone has wanted bits in Adelaide, so most had a/c, p/s d/r and several of those dashes complete in coupes and sedans.

Bugger, that's not the news I was after... Means more work at the wreckers and more money
Thanks for the info - I was informed that the looms were very similar and all that was needed to add was a wire for the oil guage.
Sounds like you've thrown out a pile of these dashboards including the wiring that goes with them, Rsrlegacy... We're lucky that the brumby already has intermittent wipers, that would've been changed with the dash anyway. We prefer the look of these dash's and would be a little different to other brumbies around here
Guess I'll start hunting for the dash AND loom...
