Legacy(liberty) with EJ20 turbo - how much boost is enough?

Hi

Just bought myself a cheap and rusted up Legacy Turbo (EJ20-GN) -93

How much boost is safe on an otherwise stock Legacy (liberty), it's currently running at about 0,5 bar's and on 95 octane fuel.

Is there any "overboost-protection" in the ECU?

I'm going to buy a wide-band a/f meter as soon as i can affoard one so i can experiment safely with ethanol (E85)
