Hi - Can anyone tell me what size of washers/spacers I will need when fitting EJ20 into L Series Engine Mounts?

EJ20 should slot right into the EA82's crossmember and bolt down fine.. In the EA81 crossmember you need to widen the holes a little (about 6mm each) but in the EA82 it bolts right in.

...The process is mainly the same as MY, but with attention to the following points:
The engine mounts will need to be spaced upwards with washers, the L series has a slightly different angle on its engine crossmember than an MY....

So do you reckon I don't need to worry about it?

Not sure what everyone here in Aus does it but I mainly hang on with the US guys on ultimatesubaru and they always just bolt them in. Might put a little more angle on the mounts but I really doubt it would be a problem as in the 3 years I've been reading about EJ conversions I have never heard of mounts dying or breaking.

I used sqare tapered purlin washers.

It will bolt in with no modification at all, however there are some points to pay attention to which will improve things;

- Slot the holes in the crossmember outwards by about 3-5mm. This will make fitting easier but make no difference after it's all bolted up
- If nothing else, Space the engine up slightly using large washers, at least 1.5mm thick. This is to stop the hell housing knocking on the engine crossmember sometimes. Also you can beat that rear section of the crossmember in a little with a mallet, but not too much or it will foul the steering rack underneath.
- If you EJ motor has the older round engine mounts you are best off replacing with the square type, they are much stronger.
- The part of the engine crossmember where the mounts go on the EA crossmember are the wrong angle, too much angle. The older round type mounts will die quickly, the square ones will last longer. Best to (instead of using washers) make some custom "wedges" to bring the angle back to normal EJ spec (less angle).

But yeah, it will bolt in with no modification at all, just be aware of the above.

Wedge shaped rectangular wedges is better. I've seen them made out of some ally before.
