what i don't get is ,can i still use the origional tank with a low pressure pump from the tank to the surge and then a high pressure to the motor? could some clarify for me please?

Looking at your surge tank, it has four connections, from bottom to top goes like this 1- feed to HP EFI pump, 2- LP feed from LP pump from tank, 3- return from fuel pressure reg. 4- return to main tank.
You could swap 2 and 3 if you wish. Plumb it up but don't run the HP pump till the surge tank is overflowing and sending fuel back to the main tank, that way your HP pump should prime up to the engine easier.

HP = high pressure
LP = low pressure

Thats it exactly.
Use your existing low pressure pump to feed the surge canister from the fuel tank.
Buy an EFI pump to feed the motor from the surge canister.
