Mine started life as a single range Vortex AWD box and underwent surgery to convert to dual range and unbeknownst to me a Liberty closer ratio gearset and L low range gears . That's before I got it .

I'm not sure which fork it has on the selector shaft but it was not going to work in an other wise std Aus spec 85/85 RX sedan .
I do have a spare single range Vortex AWD box but have no idea if the forks are different to L AWD boxes .

When I can find some time (never have enough) we'll get to mine which was shortened too much (must have at least 10mm of spacing between the stay rod bracket and the back plate of the box) and if anything the total length is a tad short .
As I said last time my fabricator said grab another std rod and we'll have another go when time permits .

I think the secret is to try to bolt up whatever you have and see which way the rubber hangers at the gearstick end flex . When everything lines up and hangs normally it should be right .

Cheers A .

BTW I really hate the way Subaru have the closest fork bolt to the box , it forces you to knock out the roll pin to remove the fork and pressed steel uni joint type thing . I'm reluctant to lay into that roll pin with a punch and hammer because the selector shaft is "a rattlin good fit" in the box itself .
No doubt an angle grinder would get the head off that bolt so it could be removed from the outer side . Loctite would prevent the nut unscrewing itself next time around with the nut placed at the inner end not the outer end .

End rant .

Are you talking about the gear selector fork or the gearbox "transfer" ratio gear selector - I know the transfer ratio selector would have been changed in your conversion Disco. If you want to know more about this, I'll write it up for you...

As for the cutting and welding of the stay rod/gear selector arm here's a pic from PeeJay:

^ Here you can best see the stay rod...

The main 5 ratio selector shaft is what I mean .

Nope , range selector connected straigh up and works as per normal - only no 2H-4H-4L , only AWD high and AWD low range .

I can't be certain that box end links are std (for an L DR AWD box) as it is a hybrid box and the builder used all dual range L series rods and linkages along the side of the box . Effectively the range change gear is as per part time DR because all L series bits were used .

Cheers A .

If you look carefully at that pic there are actually two welds on it - The original didn't go in the right direction and was hitting the shifter linkage so I had to cut out a bit. But all I did was put it all in the car, get it looking good and tacked it in place.
