Well this cheap and cheerful performance mod really improved low down engine flexibility over the standard EA81 Y pipe and at the other end of the scale. My speedo reads GPS accurate, has a suggested gearshift or max speed in gear indicator on the dial of 110 in 3rd - pulled up a long incline the other day when a zippy Corolla went by seemingly effortlessly - got me caught up in things, took my mind off the speedo to then see 120 in third - engine sounded fine !

More low down flexibility you say...As in more power? torque? Takes more to make it ping? Now I'm wishing I nabbed the Y pipe of that L I scrapped, my engine has heaps of low down power as it is but I'm always looking for more
But my ute has no cat converter and neither did the wagon, would probably kill the thing in no time with all the emissions

Will it ever end!?

Right, done another one. Ea82 carby Y pipe with cat bolted up nicely to EA81 direct to heads, no cast iron egr adaptors, no shoving rear section back any , but the rear pipe now jammed against my Brumbys centre bearing bolt, and it has that distinct L Series vibrating pipe/baffle/heat shield/double wall pipe rattle.
Really odd thing is this was a 2" sports exhaust with just a rear muffler - no resonator hot dog or cat previously. Now the cackle and backing off raucus is gone - it's quiet running except for that vibration of pipe gainst centre bearing and the baffle noise.
This is with twin carbs and does not sound to rev out as much or pedal and accy needs looking at to ensure full travel. It is crisper just off idle position, just feels a bit restrained, but may be due to all that noise gone, just for a cat - unless my bluetongue ended up in there overnight - be right cooked up against the precious metal cat !

Thisa one needed a stay bracket off a previously unemployed threaded hole at the rear of the five speed to hold the existing rear section away from the centre bearing bracket bolt. A final chop to said excess on bolt sorted that vibration. Just got the L loose cat rumble sometimes. An odd thing - fuel economy has improved - used to be 70l to 540km sort of figures. Chop 10 litres off ! See if next fill gives similar ?
A bit concerned that no noise = no power
, did a standing start to 100kph did it in 6.8 seconds (give or take another 10
) No think lost anything on this 500,000km donk !

I don't know what I have done to the second Brumby with its different year model L Y pipe.
I am dealing with a quiet as factory exhaust note since the cat went into the equation, does nmot feel (sound) as peppy, but does feel torquier down low. I had the need to take it up some twisty hilly stuff, bad camber sealed road and just held my foot to the floor in whatever gear to do 75, 80 k without revving itstitsoff and it just pulled quietly and smoothly without sounding strained or revved at all.
Would be happier if I'd tried it four or five years ago when i got the pipe
