Also you can gain a little more clearance there by belting the crossmember just near where the steering rack goes (where the clearance issue is) with a gympie a few times, just to be sure

If your motor comes with the round engine mounts, ditch them and source some square ones. Will save you replacing them when the round one fail - they are shyte

When making the spacers, try to construct some wedges instead - you will notice that when the EJ mounts sit on the crossmember they are at a bigger angle than normal which also contributes to their earlier death - square ones still last ages but to make it perfect use wedges to bring it into the right angle will help lots.
