MY power steering setup
Fantastic!!!
Very nice example, would love a brumby right now if they all looked that sweet...

Wow
Hi Giles,
the Beta looks great wow it sure is a long way from the old Greeves and James etc.
Can I try it out eheheheheh I bet that I would be doing a fair few dabs these days.
Best regards

Hey thanks guys for the continued kind comments !
Scoob is for sure a great little truck and I am very proud to own him, if I can pass back any encouraging words or tip's it this........
Attention to detail - and the rest takes care of itself.
Project time to date is 2 and 1/2 years so patience also required !
hey Hylton I have been known to have the odd dab myself
did you know that there is not only a new OSSA (out now) !!! but potentially a new GREEVES too - Google them both - you will be amazed !
Its started snowing again as I type this !! - so new bike in garage, day booked off work tommorrow & Scoob raring to go.......my nails are under nibble attack right now !

Those wheels were more or less the standard issue here - early trucks had a plain looking silver / pressed steel wheel (didn't enhance appearance imo).phantomD wrote:We have a lot to thank the Subaru designers for, eh? This car looks amazing! You even have the same wheels as what I bought for mine.
Mine have been shot blasted and powder coated.

Mission Accomplished !
OK Scooby folks........
Tuesday 28th and a early start for me, up sticks and away to the foggy heights of Wadsworth (above Hebden Bridge) to the Subaru Mecca that is HDC Subaru.
The Morning was Cold, Dark, Grey, Foggy and Icy (so pretty typical of the UK in winter!).
Once there we quickly got Scoob up on the ramp and Howard and co (& me) got stuck into stripping off all what was the original non power steering set up off him.
We chose to remove the spot welded plate from the subframe to aid fitting of the PAS rack.
The hydraulic pipes that run down the outside of the rack had to be 'pursuaded' into a non contact position !
Given we encounted a few rusted in bolts along the way which added to the time - overall the job ran like clockwork which was in the main thanks to the 'Rally tuned CAN DO' skills of Howard and his team.
Were not entirely sure AND it doesnt make any differance to the finished job but about the only issue we encountered was the 'rubber clamped' side of the rack was round rather than square (as on the manual) so given the rack is bolt fixed at the other end we swapped the clamps around and used the largest square one and used the largest rubber bush we had - result a sound and totally satisfactory solution.
Question did the brumby PAS racks alter down the years ?
We didnt have to move the vac pipe position as initially thought, we were able to use the pipe supplied and it picked up from the original point on the manifold - see pics.
The most difficult part of the job was the removal of the earthing lead bolt from the head - which was fused / rusted in and dragged out alloy:( this was then VERY carefully tapped out - the other issue was a rusted in bolt in the original thermo housing - very careful removal saved a big potential here too.
The steering U J was a Tw*t to get on but once there - we were able to do the tracking and steering wheel alingment - which Howard and Malc got spot on FIRST time
Whilst scrubbing about under Scoob - we spotted a couple of small jobs to do in the new year - a CV boot will be through soon and the bottom ball joints need changing.
So all zipped up and ready for the test drive - initial feeling is that slow speed yes it is what I expected easy on the arms and in 4WD - easy peasy!
At speed the feeling is very similar to our Forester - so very happy with the end result:D
So Big thanks to all in OZ land for your help in this project - you know who you are but I suppose RSR555 Paul takes the lions share of the thanks thing !
Plus the HDC Team in the UK for fast & efficient fitting plus lots of HOT drinks throughout the COLD day !
Have a look at the pictures and tell me what you think !

Looks great Giles and very happy to help
Not 100% sure why you didn't need to move the brake booster vacuum line.. maybe you guys have a different manifold to us
but it looks like it's all good in there. The use of the old rack rubber I'm sure will be fine but if you like, I can find a spare one and send it off with some spats ( once I finish enjoying xmas/new year
)
Cheers,
Paul

looks really good Giles I would say your MV1800 has the older manifold as it doesn't have that annoying exhaust recirculation device on the firewall near the wiper washer bottle it makes Australian brumbys sound like chaff cutters when the valve lets go.
I would equate this to different emission laws for "trucks " in the UK and yes 99.9% of the time Paul is really helpful

Great to see another project finished but once again you cheated by not doing it yourself
Importantly, is daughter happy with it - as it was installed for her wasn't it ?
The inlet with the lhs pollution stuff was off later twin headlight models here. This unit is older isn't it?
And that spare. I reckon I know that tread pattern, what is it ? Michelin ? Think I have had some low mile cheap imports from the UK same as.

It all fitted really smooth check the image (took it to show you) as Jules or someone said maybe different manifolds ??? Still we actually used the pipe you sent me with the PAS kit !RSR 555 wrote:Looks great Giles and very happy to help![]()

Seem to remember the OZ front cut manifold was alot differant - but not sure if the engine was Brumby or Leone or a mix of both.......either way the emissions plumbing was soooo complex ! Glad we dont have that garbage to worry over !
If you have the rack rubber then yes please send it up

BTW have you and Jules settled on what spats you can send me yet ?
You can send them to HDC again if you like - maybe easier that way??/

Ha ha bloody ha I was shattered after all that coffee making
No seriously my hands were black by the time we had finished - though the task was a true 'Team HDC' effort - great guys and we had a great laugh all the way through
Importantly, is daughter happy with it - as it was installed for her wasn't it ?
Eleanor is now aware the truck would be driveable by her.......
Just when though remains to be seen.........
Need to find a big open space with no cars, people, animals, trees, or other obstructions to teach her the basics of clutch control and pointing the thing in the right direction - GULP!
Oh and yes the install was for her benefit - thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

NO the Tyres are LASSA and are a 'town and country' type very good on road (Quiet at speed and grippy) and for my use adequate off road. They are not an extreme use type tyre - where they are excellent is in the snow !:D

Jules brought up the spats that he showed you in that pic but I've been busy with family/xmas stuff.. I'm sure I have a set on an old MY Touring Wagon I have in the other shed. They are yours if they are there.. just need to get in there and move some cars around ( not looking forward to that

I'm glad you asked about the 0.1% but that does give me an out whenever he needs a hand with anything.. like a 6cyl in a Liberty wagon1111giles wrote:and the other .1% of the time ????

Yes I can imagine you could have had 'fun' if things decided to be akward ! and of course for me (us) many hands make light work and all that
