Subaru Forester lengthened struts - how?

Post by Pomorec » Mon May 26, 2008 9:03 pm

Hi overseas colleagues! My name is Anton and I'm enjoying a ride with a Subaru as all of you here just on the other end of the globe - actually Lithuania. I've been looking for any info on how to fit lager tires on my Forester (SF9) and found John Shera's nice report with all the modifications he's done and where he wrote about lengthened rear struts. The report is here: http://www.subaclub.com/MyCar/Shera.htm There is a picture of a strut but unfortunately no technical details of the process. He only said that an alternative modification is to raise the rear spring seats. So it seems that he used another way. So if somebody (or even John himself) could explain me what was done with a strut to make it longer I would very much appreciate that. Thank you!

by the looks of the pic on that website, all he has done is weld plates on the strut mount and drilled the holes lower down. You'd want to be pretty careful welding onto a gas strut....
